Can't import Capital One transactions to Quickbooks for Mac

I'm trying to find a way to manage expenses using my Capital One Mastercard with my Quickbooks Desktop for Mac. I've been through dozens of "Help" files, but so far none of them give valid instructions. They specify to choose menu options which don't exist (in my Quickbooks). I've added a credit card account to my Chart of Accounts, but there is no way to import transactions. (I have not yet upgraded to 2019 because I'm trying to determine if I can move to Online, but it appears that the data doesn't convert properly, particularly with General Journal entries. And online is ridiculously expensive. So I'm still running the prior 2016 version.) Is there any other workaround to import this data?

Financial institutions support the most current year versions. Anything older than 2016 will not be supported.

Can't import Capital One transactions to Quickbooks for Mac

Hello there, MortonVisuals.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I want to make sure you'll be able to import bank transactions successfully.

Recently, we've been receiving reports about this issue with importing transactions from Capital One to QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. This issue was reviewed by our engineering team and they found out that the tags are too long in the QBO file because they are more than 32 characters and shortening this allows QuickBooks to import.

Also, you'll need to get in touch with Capital One Bank to make sure they are using the QBO files that meets the OFX standard.

You might want visit this article to know more about downloading Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks.

I'm not getting a QBO file, I'm downloading a .CSV of the transactions. I can't find a way to import that .CSV file into QB (even though Help files say I can).

No, I meant that I had accidentally double-posted here. I still have the same issue -- can't find a way to import the .CSV transactions into QB for Mac.

Hello @MortonVisuals,

Currently, there isn't an option to import your banking transactions in a CSV file format.

In the meantime, you have the option to download again and upload your banking transactions. This time, let's select either IIF or Excel file. And then import your banking transactions successfully. Or you can follow the steps on the article provided by my colleague about importing a Web Connect (.QBO) file.

Lastly, here's an article you can read to learn more about the different file types you can import: Import/Export Overview.

Please let me know if you have any other questions. It'll be always my pleasure to help.
