Can you import mileage (from say, MileIQ) into QB Online as you can with QG Self Employment?

Glad to see you here, @jam22407,

Importing mileage data into QuickBooks Online (QBO) from other sources is currently unsupported. What you can do is to automatically track your mileage and trips.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Mileage menu from the left toolbar.
  2. Select Add Trip, then add the information like date, starting/ending points, distance, and the purpose.

  3. Hit Save.

To know more on how to use the Mileage tracking feature in QBO, see the following links:

Being able to import MileIQ data into QBO like you do in QuickBooks Self-Employed is a great idea when added to the program. I know how beneficial it is to keep this related information in one place using a direct integration tool. While this is not introduced yet, I'll make sure to relay this to our developers.

Stay on top of our product updates and feature releases by visiting the QuickBooks Blog: Intuit Blog.

If you have any other questions about QuickBooks, feel free to post them here. I'll be glad to share additional insights and help. Have a wonderful week ahead!

Hey there, @GraceH

Thanks for following the thread.

Please know that we have sent this suggestion to our product development team. Our product developers will analyze the request and will decide rather to add it as a new feature.

I also wanted to include that you can submit a feedback request any time you have ideas for new features you'd like to see included in updates. Our product development team loves to hear from customers like you.

  1. Hit the Gear icon at the top, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then tap Next to submit feedback.

Your valuable feedback goes to our Product Development team to help improve your experience in QBO. You can track feature requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

Please let me know if there's anything else that I can do for you. I'm happy to lend a hand anytime. Take care and have a fantastic day!

Can you import mileage (from say, MileIQ) into QB Online as you can with QG Self Employment?

Yes you can - sort of.

If you want to import historical mileage from QB desktop to QB online (as I did), try this:

(1) In QBD, run up the Mileage by Vehicle Detail Report (Mileage, Mileage Reports, Mileage by Vehicle Detail)

(2) Choose the time frame for the report (I chose All)

(3) Under the Excel menu, choose Create New Worksheet

(4) Give it a name and IMPORTANT - choose "Create a comma separate values file"

(5) Now open the file and massage it so that you have the following column headers:

Date, Type, Trip Purpose, Vehicle, Start Address, End Address, Distance, Deduction, Logging Method

(6) I used the following example info in mine:

01/04/2021, Business, Site Visit, XC12 ABC, NA, NA, 175, 0, Manual

(All rows in my file had Business, Site Visit, XC12 ABC, NA, NA, 0, Manual column entries, only things changed were Distance and Date)

(7) In QBO, go to Mileage, click on arrow next to Add Trip, then Import Trips

(8) Select and Import the CSV file, and you should be good !

Why on earth Intuit couldn't add an import of mileage from QBD is beyond me. But then I've just moved to QBO and I'm starting to find it's limitations. Already looking for an alternative....
