Downloading Transaction Mac Desktop - Capital One

Hello, I’m having a crazy issue with Quickbooks Mac Desktop 2019. My quickbooks isn’t allowing me to download my .qfx/.qbo file that I’ve downloaded from my Capital One bank account. The error it gives me is “contact your financial institution.” Things I have tried: -Contacted Capital One. Didn’t work. —---They suggested downloading the .qfx through a different browser, which I tried and… didn’t work. -Making a new company file and trying to download it there. Didn’t work. -Using an earlier backup of the company file. Didn’t work. -Massive amounts of googling and quickbooks forum searching to find someone with a similar issue and troubleshooting via that. Didn’t work. Things that do work… downloading the .qfx file from the Wells Fargo bank account, converting to .qbo, and then downloading into quickbooks. My quickbooks is up to date with the latest mac version. I’m logged into my company and intuit account. Is there something in the .qbo/.qfx/text file that I need to alter to make this work? It worked in the past. The last download for Capital One I had that worked was when I updated my bookkeeping on October 17th. Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Neither of the replies were the solution, but it did point me in a general direction, kind of.

On my computer, changing .qfx to .qbo does work. It works for Wells Fargo and Capital One. The problem with the Capital One .qbo not being read by Quickbooks is the code.

You have to download a .qbo file for QuickBooks.  .qfx is for Quicken and is different. You can't manually change the file extension - that won't work.

If Capital One doesn't offer a .qbo (QuickBooks Web Connect) download option then the issue is that Capital One doesn't support QuickBooks.  If it does offer it then just download that and it should work.

Also... banks occasionally reserve the .qbo file for business accounts and offer the .qfx option for personal accounts.  If you are using a personal checking account that may be the issue.

I just upgraded to Mac 2020 and have a similar issue with importing capital one export file in QBO format.

I will be requesting a refund after being online with tech support in India (Always a frustrating experience) for many hours. Going back to 2016 if manually having to do transactions.

You can import this file to your account using the Web Connect process, @christinej1968

Did you encounter any errors when trying to import the file? That'll help us resolve the error you're having.

The first time you use the Web Connect process, you must go through a setup process. For a detailed guidance, check this article: Online banking: Using Web Connect

In case you’ve encountered any errors in the future, check this article on how to get this resolved: Error: Nothing imported after importing a Web Connect (.qbo) file.

Let us know if there's anything that you need about importing your transactions. I'm always glad to help in any way I can.
