Happy Monday, @PaulCyberEngel.
Connecting to American Express can be a little tricky, but I'm here to help.
If you've recently updated QuickBooks, you'll need to login to the AMEX website outside of QuickBooks to make sure there are no messages that need attention. After you log in to their website, then you'll want to go through the connection steps again to bring in your transactions. This is due to American Express changing their connection process a few updates ago and implementing a new security policy. If you keep hitting a bump in the road, I suggest contacting AMEX to make sure they're not having connection issues on their end with QuickBooks.
Feel free to comment below if you have any other questions. Best wishes!

I am receiving the same message with the same problem with my bank - NOT Amex. So this issue has nothing to do with just Amex. My bank hasn't changed anything so what is the problem?
Hi there, @rose lizard.

In an online world, there are times that the communications between QuickBooks and your financial institution may be interrupted. When this happens, we can manually update your connected bank.
Here's how:
Just in case you'll see a message about additional authentication, follow the onscreen steps to continue the update.

Quickbooks Desktop for Mac - error message RecNum is too small - program freezes - QB says it is the bank's fault - the bank says it is QB - bottom line I can no longer connect to my bank - QB shows I am connected, bank says I am not. Worked with techs on both sides all day. I am using a stand-alone 2022 version - non-profit - should legally still connect to the bank. How can this be fixed?
