End of month reconciliation

Hi all,

What is the correct way to handle a reconciliation with an expense that is withdrawn by the bank on two different dates.  My payroll register was entered on June 30th for a total of $59,303.00.  However, the payroll company withdrew partial funds on 6/30 and the remaining on 7/1 which is causing reconciliation issues.  Is there a correct way to handle this?

I can help you how to handle this discrepancy on your reconciliation, @Eliza. I'll drop information gradually to resolve this one expense withdrawn in two different months in QuickBooks Online.

At this point, to match the payroll expense you entered in QuickBooks, we'll need to locate the payroll expenses under the Find Match or Find Other Matches option. Doing this, QuickBooks will let you match the withdrawn partial funds by your payroll company.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu and then Banking.
  2. Pick the tile for the account you want to review.
  3. Select the For Review tab to start your review.
  4. Click the deposit to expand the view.
  5. Choose Find Match or Find Other Matches.
  6. You can use filters/search to locate payroll transactions. Even if they're not the same amount, QuickBooks will allow you to match the partial amount reflected on the bank as of June 30th.
  7. Select the payment that matches.
  8. Hit Save.

Following that, you can reconcile the remaining balance of the banking transaction that occurred on July 1st using the aforementioned procedure.

Furthermore, to address any account-related issues and learn about the steps involved in reconciling your statements, refer to the articles below. They will provide valuable information to help you maintain accurate financial records.

Please keep me updated if you have any further inquiries regarding bank transaction management. Feel free to let me know in the comments. I'll be glad to assist.

@elizadegras

Obviously, @ChristineJoieR 's response will not work.

When you say "My payroll register was entered on June 30th for a total of $59,303.00" - was that entered as a journal entry or ???  If it was entered as a journal entry, break up the $59,303.00 credit entry to your bank account into two separate lines - one for the amount withdrawn on 6-30 and another for the amount withdrawn on 7-1.  That will allow you to reconcile your June and July statements properly.
