Did you convert data from another program?

I converted from Quickbooks Desktop and never had an issue like this. I used to download an IIF file that would import. Now for QB Online it is a csv file but requires a journal number for the information I’m importing. Desktop did not require a journal number.

I converted from Quickbooks Desktop. I used to download an IIF file and then import into Desktop. It worked great. Now it is a csv file but QB Online requires a journal number for each entry. The info I download doesn’t have a journal number. QB Desktop would automatically assign a journal number to each entry.

Thank you for sharing your experience importing financial data into QuickBooks Online (QBO), Banstine. While we can't directly change this requirement in QBO, I can suggest two approaches that will help.

While there's no built-in way to turn this off, some third-party providers offer data migration services to assist with this transfer.

To look for a third-party app, here's the detailed steps:

  1. Go to the Apps menu on the left navigation bar.
  2. Click on the Find Apps tab.
  3. Search for the app you wish to connect to in the search bar or select the Browse category dropdown to search for an app by category.
  4. Select the app you wish to download.
  5. Hit on Get App Now.
  6. Authorize the app to connect to your QBO.
  7. Follow the remaining steps to connect and set up the app settings of your choice.

Alternatively, you can visit our QuickBooks App Store website directly and select an app that best suits your business from the CATEGORIES section. You can manage all third-party app connections in the My Apps tab.

I can see the importance of having this option to turn off this specific requirement in QBO. Currently, the most effective way to communicate your request is to share it with our Product Developers. They regularly review user feedback to guide future updates and improvements.

To send your input, here's how:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Go to the Gear icon located at the top-right corner of your screen.
  3.  Under the Profile section, select Feedback.
  4. Type in your suggestions and then click on Next.

In the meantime, you can check out this page to track the status of your request and get updates from our development team: QuickBooks Online Customer Feedback.

Furthermore, I'll share these additional resources about managing third-party app integrations within QBO.

I'm just around the corner and ready to answer if you have additional questions or concerns about importing financial data in QBO. If you have any inquiries about your data, entries, or other items in QuickBooks, enter a reply below, and I'll help you out.

@banstine-comcast

What kind of transaction do you need to import? Payroll expense or else?

You will need a 3rd party tool to import data as Journal Entry.
