How can I edit a reconcile transaction?

You can start with manually unreconciling the transaction, lomontvilleag.

To do this, just remove the R status of the reconciled transaction. Please take note that you can do this process as long as the account and amount stays the same.

You can follow these steps to begin:

  1. Click Accounting on the left panel.
  2. Select Chat of Accounts.
  3. Select the account of the reconciled transaction by clicking View register.
  4. Find the transaction.
  5. In the reconcile status column (indicated by a check mark), repeatedly select the top line of the transaction to change the status (R for reconciled, C for cleared, and Blank for not reconciled or cleared).
  6. Click Save.

Once the status is Blank, you can now edit the transaction. To reconcile it again, follow the same steps above and change the status back to R.

If you need a visual guide on how to do it, don't hesitate to let me know. I'd be happy to give you some screenshots.

How can I edit a reconcile transaction?

I'm curious...is there a reason for why would you do it this way rather than directly changing the thing you want to change in the reconciled status, such as the category and then saving the changes?

How can I edit a reconcile transaction?

Thanks for checking in with us, LampMgmt.

The step provided by my colleague is another method in editing the reconciled transactions. Your suggestion is also correct where we directly edit the reconciled transaction and change its category. This changes anything but the amount and the account on any given transaction won't change its reconciliation status. Here's how:

  1. Go to Accounting from the left menu, then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the bank account from the list and click View register.
  3. Locate and select the transaction you want to change, then hit Edit.
  4. Change the category or description, then click Save
  5. Tap Yes to confirm the changes.
  6. Repeat the steps for the rest of the transactions you want to edit.

Just in case you encounter issues with your opening balances, you can check out the Fix an opening balance to match a bank statement article to troubleshoot the issue. I'd still suggest reaching out to an accountant before doing this. They'll ensure your balances are correct on the next reconciliation period.
