How do I assign a starting check number to a new account?

You and I share a common goal. Let me guide you on how to assign a check number,

reb3747.

You can manually enter the check number under the new account when creating a check. QuickBooks remembers two independent sets of check numbers for each checking account. One set is for checks that are not printed and the other one is printed from QuickBooks.

Here's how you can assign a check number:

  1. Click Banking on the top menu.
  2. Choose Write Checks
  3. Select the new account in the Bank Account drop-down.
  4. In the No. field, enter the number where you want your checks to start with.
  5. Enter your other check information.
  6. Tap Save & Close.

After you record this check, all checks that you don't print will follow your new numbering.

If you need to change the check number, just follow the steps in this article: How to edit check or paycheck numbers.

You can also assign check numbers or text to bill payments that you make with handwritten checks, debit cards, or electronic fund transfers (EFTs).

Here's how:

  1. Got to Vendors on the top menu.
  2. Choose Pay Bills.
  3. Fill out the bill payment information.
  4. Tick the Method drop-down arrow and select Check.
  5. Under Account, choose the new bank account.
  6. Select the Assign check number option.
  7. Tap Pay Selected Bills.
  8. In the Assign Check Numbers window, select Let me assign the check numbers below.
  9. In the Check No. field enter the check number for that new account.
  10. Press OK
