How do I import my quickbook online data into my turbotax business desktop so I can do taxes?

Hello, @Maid2Clean.

It’s my priority that you’re able to import your QuickBooks Online data into your TurboTax business desktop. You’ll have to convert to QuickBooks Desktop using a trial subscription to import data into TurboTax. Currently, the ability to import your data to TurboTax Desktop from QuickBooks Online is not yet available. We are committed to developing easy to use financial tools therefore, I’m leaving feedback for you as our development team regularly reviews customer-submitted feedback.

Nor will it ever be! QB (Intuit) doesn't care.  What should be considered is not using ANY Intuit products, especially QBO.  Find an alternative.  We are finally winding ours down and will discontinue soon.  Never again to use software from a company who cares so little for its customers/users.    We cannot even get an actual response from anyone at Intuit that seems to care.  Intuit's responses repeating the same garbage over and over is not helpful.

How do I import my quickbook online data into my turbotax business desktop so I can do taxes?

I foolishly tried your advice - exported my Quickbook Online data; downloaded the Quickbook Desktop trial version ... specifically so I could export this information to TurboTax. I followed all the instructions from: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/import-or-export-data-files/export-and-convert-you...

But there is no MAC OS migration tool!!! The migration file - the only one available - is a .exe file.

So I'm stuck - and I can't find a way out of this ... and I've already been dragged through so many hoops to actually use your products ... I just feel like giving up.

Is this option (of converting QB Online data to QB Desktop) just not an option for Mac users? If so, that should be included in your support pages ... preferably early in the document before someone has gone through all the steps

@ncroda

Utilize the trial version of a bookkeeping app to integrate with your QBO and export the TXF file as a workaround. You don't need to install QB Desktop.

How do I import my quickbook online data into my turbotax business desktop so I can do taxes?

Hi ncroda!

Let me share more details on how you can convert your QuickBooks Online (QBO) data to TurboTax.

The article added to this post is for QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Windows. In order to transfer the data from QBO to QBDT for Mac, we'll need to convert it first to QBDT for Windows. Here are the detailed instructions on how to convert a QuickBooks for Windows file to QuickBooks for Mac.

Also, there's an update last December 2020 from Microsoft where they discontinued the support for Internet Explorer including the ActiveX feature which we used to export data out of QBO. This may result in issues in using the Migration tool. For now, the best way to migrate the file is to move lists and balances from QBO to QBDT.

In addition, TurboTax only supports data from QBDT for Windows. Please check this link for the detailed steps: How do I import QuickBooks data into TurboTax Business?.

Our Team continuously looking for the best way to export the data from QuickBooks Online to TurboTax. All our new features and innovations will be posted on our blog.

I appreciate you wanted to help - but the issue is the conversion from Online -> Windows -> Mac in order to then import the Desktop information into TurboTax. Firstly, I don't own a Windows machine to do the conversion from Windows to Mac (and that is crazy for me to put my account details on someone else's computer for the sake of this transfer).

This is a huge pain-point for users - I can't be the only one.

The bookkeeping app as I mentioned earlier doesn't need to install QB Desktop.

Apologies if this was conveyed, but is QBO -> Turbotax Business Online an easier migration than Turbotax Business Desktop?

Good afternoon, @ReliquaryInterest

Thanks for joining in on this thread and making your first post here in the Community. I hope you're having a great day so far.

With the TurboTax Business system, it's only available as a CD or download. Meaning that the desktop is the only way to do this migration.

I recommend going through the articles and steps that my colleagues have provided in this thread. Here's a link for future details: How do I import QuickBooks data into TurboTax Business?

I hope this gives you the answer to your question. If you run into any issues, don't hesitate to ask. I want to make sure that you're able to get back to running your business. Bye for now!

This does not work at all. Total waste of time. Copy to Mac doesn't exist in the software Intuit provides

Please provide more information about the error you encountered while attempting to copy data to your Mac. Additionally, please provide details about the specific data you were trying to copy, as well as the versions of QuickBooks and TurboTax you are using. The trial provided is for Enterprise. Enterprise does not allow Copy to Mac. Why doesn’t anyone at Intuit support seem to know this and correct these “instructions”?? I wasted three hours being bounced around to different people masquerading as Support. All they did was read the same instructions from the web. QuickBooks Online does not export to QuickBooks for Mac. Which is stupid.

Conceptually, it is beyond idiotic. However it’s moot… the free trial provided does not export to Mac. Not a feature of Enterprise. Which is what is provided. Which doesn’t work.

@JZ74

TurboTax is not friendly to Mac users.

2. Install the trial version of Parallels (free)

3. Install Windows 10 Home on Parallels (< $50)

4. Install the trial version of QB Desktop 2023 or 2024 Enterprise (free)
