How do I import my QuickBooks data to TurboTax

Hi there, mrstinaarmstrong.

I'll give you detailed instructions on how to import your QuickBooks Online data into TurboTax.

You'll need to convert your QBO data to QuickBooks Desktop through a trial version. For the complete steps, see this link: Convert QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

After that, import the data to your Turbo Tax. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax account and continue to your return.
  2. From the TurboTax File menu, select Import and click From Accounting Software.
  • If you're importing from both Quicken and QuickBooks, import from QuickBooks first.

       3. Select QuickBooks (2018-2021), then click Continue.

      4. Follow the onscreen instructions.

Another option is to use a third-party app. Thus, you can import your QBO data directly into your TurboTax account. If you wish to continue, please visit our QuickBooks App Center.

Please check this article to see how your data convert from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop and what are the limitations when moving between two software: Limitations when you convert from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

If you need further assistance in migrating your files, please feel free to add them below. I'll be right here to keep helping. Keep safe, mrstinaarmstrong.

@mrstinaarmstrong

Utilize the trial version of QB Desktop to extract the TXF file. Otherwise, purchase a 3rd party service to do so.

How do I import my QuickBooks data to TurboTax

My TurboTax 2021 has only the import option to import from QuickBooks (2019-2022).

TurboTax returns with an error and then crashes when I select that option.

Can I export QuickBooks PRO Desktop 2018 into a format to be imported in the TurboTax?

Any other option?

How do I import my QuickBooks data to TurboTax

I can share some tips on how you can import your data, Adrian-2000.

Please know that TurboTax 2021 can only import data from supported versions of QuickBooks Desktop (2019-2022). Since you're using the 2018 version, you'll want to download and install the trial version of QBDT 2022.

Then, create a backup of your company file then restore it to the trial version. Once you're all set up and ready, follow these steps to import your data:

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax account and continue to your return.
  2. From the File menu, select Import and then choose From Accounting Software.
  3.  Select QuickBooks (2018-2021), then click Continue.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions.

Make sure that your QuickBooks data file should be saved to your local drive, not on the network or cloud to avoid unexpected errors. Also, you'll have to leave QuickBooks running and keep your QuickBooks data file open during the importing process.

For more resources in preparing and submitting your return in TurboTax, you browse some topics from this page: File taxes.

I'm just a post away if you have any other concerns or additional questions. Have a great day!

How do I import my QuickBooks data to TurboTax

I appreciate the guidance.

In the mean time I downloaded a QB Desktop PRO 2021.

First attempt to import it started but then TT crashed again.

Now, for the past 90 min, I have been updating QB 2021. It feels like a massive upgrade, but for approx. 380MB downloaded to date it is way too slow. I assume Intuit does not use a cloud update service but your own infrastructure, which is Turtle speed.

I'll see the results after I upgrade.

Thank you again

The QB 2021 Updates for the Maintenance Releases never finished. I've tried at least five times.
I then disabled those and updated everything else.

Luckily that helped and I could import the data into TurboTax.

I spent a full day trying to do something that had worked for the past 10 years, and one would expect to be flawless since I bought both products from the same company.

Enough is enough. Time to look for alternatives.
For the past 3-4 years Intuit became a greedy entity which did not even offer you a solution, but they've forced you to upgrade. I considered going Online, but guess what, on this support site many people were appalled that they could not import from an Online version to TurboTax.

Thank you for your support though.

@Adrian-2000

If you are using QBD Pro/Premier, we couldn't recommend any product to replace it. If you decide to migrate data to another cloud based accounting app, you may purchase a 3rd party conversion service if required.

How in the ever living F**k is this still an issue? There is very little to like about Intuit as a company.

How do I import my QuickBooks data to TurboTax

Hi there, @ostry.

Before digging deep into this, may I know where you performed the steps provided by my colleague? The process provided in the thread is for TurboTax, and if you don't see the option inside your TurboTax account. You may want to reach out to TurboTax Customer Care Team. This way, they can assign a representative to check your account in a secure environment to determine the root cause of the issue.

I'll gladly input the steps below to get you going. To begin, here's how:If you're using TurboTax Online:

  1. Sign into your TurboTax account (if you aren't already signed in)
  2. Once you're in, type Contact us in the Search bar
  3. Select the Contact Us button from the results
  4. Select the pencil icon to enter your question and select Let's talk
  5. Now choose between:
  • Posting your question to our community of experts (Post a question)
  • Talking one-on-one with a live TurboTax Expert or CPA (Get a call)
  • Free Edition (without PLUS): This is not covered, so when you select Talk to a specialist, you'll be asked to add PLUS benefits first

For more details, see this article: How do I contact TurboTax?

You may also check TurboTax's Community page to help you accomplish your goals: File taxes.

Feel free to leave a comment below if you need further assistance with this, @ostry. I'll be here, ready to help you out. Stay safe!
