How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

This is horrible.  I pay for quickbooks online, and I can't import into to TurboTax?  Even though they're both owned by Intuit?  You want me to now buy TurboTax Desktop?  That's extortionate.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

Hi there, nothankyou.

Allow me to step in for a moment and provide some additional information about importing QBO data to Turbo Tax.

Both products are owned by Intuit, the interface and some functionalities aren’t similar. Since there isn’t a direct way of transferring your QBO information to TurboTax, you still have to go through the conversion process as mentioned by @IamjuViel.

This is to ensure transactions are properly converted. There's no need to purchase another Turbo Tax software since you can still use it to prepare and file the tax return.

Once there’s progress about this, rest assured, I’ll update this thread so other customers will know as well. The QuickBooks Blog is a great resource to stay up to date on upcoming changes.

You can visit this website to see those updates: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/blog/.

This should help you move forward. If there’s anything else I can help you with, post a comment below. I’ll be around to assist further.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

I misspoke.  I meant that you are requiring me to download a trial version of QuickBooks desktop in order to convert my data from Quickbooks online to TurboTax.

It isn't even apparent how I obtain a trial version of Quickbooks Desktop.

Here is an idea:  Since you have already charged me for a year of Quickbooks Online, and this product lacks the obvious functionality of uploading data to TurboTax, you should provide your existing Quickbooks Online customers with a version of Quickbooks Desktop.  They're both owned by intuit, and it is obvious that people who bought Quickbooks Online did so with the understanding that it would integrate with TurboTax.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

Hi there, @nothankyou.

I appreciate you taking your time on getting back to us in the Community. Allow me to chime in and help make sure that you can import your QuickBooks Online (QBO) data to Turbo Tax.

First of all, you can download the free trial version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) through this link: QuickBooks Desktop trial links.

Once downloaded, prepare your QBO data for the export. Here's how:

1. Go to the Gear icon and pick Export Data under Tools column. A pop-up window appears with a quick question about your reason for exporting. Choose your reason, then select Continue
2. Click Learn more under Moving to QuickBooks Desktop section, then Learn more again on the Download company data section.
3. Hit Install ActiveX Control Now, then Get Started.
4. Select Install for the ActiveX control, then Install ActiveX Control Now to confirm the installation.
5. Once done, click Continue, then choose the date you want to export and select Continue at the bottom.
6. Enter the necessary information and hit Continue again.

After that, you'll receive an email with the steps to complete the export conversion. You can also refer to this article and scroll down to Export from QuickBooks Online for more information: Export data file from QuickBooks Online to Desktop. Once done, check out this article for the detailed steps on how to import QuickBooks data into TurboTax.

This should get you pointed in the right track. Please let me know how it goes or if you have any additional questions about the process. I'm always here to answer them. Take care and have an amazing weekend.

I would like to add my name to the list of people wanting an answer on this question. It's completely unacceptable to me that two Intuit products can't communicate with each other in a meaningful way. Does Intuit not want or expect its QB customers to use Turbotax?

I read a set of instructions for how to set this up, and frankly it's an embarrassment. You are required to install QB desktop software with a trial license, then use a version of Internet Explorer that is so outdated it literally cannot be installed on any modern Windows OS, and this is mandatory to download your QB file to the desktop software. Then and ONLY then can you export your file to Turbotax. I can't even...

Even if you are able to find an old clunky computer with IE browser, it may still not work.

Intuit is a business and financial software company in the US. If they really wanted to offer you the latest version of QBO to QBDT conversion tool, they would have done it years ago. They just want you to stay in QBO. Rest, they just don't care!

Thank you for this information. And I completely understand that you () are not the person to be upset with.

But, I would like to know where and who I should send my bill to, at intuit, for the time it is taking me to have my online quickbooks (which I pay Intuit monthly for) business data converted to a desktop version (I'm to be emailed when it is complete), then the time it will take to move the desktop quickbooks to TurboTax.

I figure my bill to intuit will probably pay for any taxes I owe. :)

I found this very interesting as I was submitting my post (see attached image)

It states at the Intuit site, "One Account Everything Intuit", showing the quickbook and turbo tax logos at the top. Yikes!

That is one of THE dumbest things I've ever heard... you used the word "easily" then proceeded to give a ridiculous set of complicated instructions... The only reason we used and paid for QB was to save time and put in TT easily... utter fail. :o(

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

I spent my entire year detailing hundreds of expenses in QuickBooks making sure that there were receipts and that everything was categorized properly. Then this week I go to file my taxes with TurboTax and I have to manually enter in all of the data again. I literally thought that was the sole purpose of QuickBooks was tax preparation functionality. I'd like to request that the development team focus the next eight months to make this problem solved by 2019 tax year.

Hi there, @Bittiker1,

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and feedback about this. Allow me to chime in and share some information about importing your Quickbooks Online data into TurboTax business desktop.

Being able to transfer your data without manually doing it is a great preference we'd like to have in our program. While this preference is currently unavailable, I suggest checking for a third-party app that could help export your data to TurboTax.

I've already taken note of your request, rest assured I will update you in this thread once this preference is available for our users.

Should you have additional questions about migrating or anything else QuickBooks related, please let me know by leaving a comment below. I'll glad to help you get back on track. Have a good day.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

The only reason i bought Quickbooks this year and paid people to help me learn and get the information organized was so i could import it into turbo tax and be done quickly.

Now i realize i could have stuck with my excel spreadsheets and old method and saved thousands by not using your product?????This is embarrassing for me and you. Count me out using your crap products ever again. I will do my best to ensure as many people as possible know about this. What a load of crap. Never again intuit!!!

Hello, @john5mt.

I understand how it can get frustrating when something isn't working the way we wanted to. Please allow me to join the thread and help share additional information about importing QuickBooks data into TurboTax.

As of now, since there isn't an availability of importing QuickBooks data directly to TurboTax, as mentioned by my colleague Jen_D, you may look for a third-party application that could help export your data to TurboTax.

However, I want to ensure customers like you are having the best possible experience while working with QuickBooks. I'll also take note with this, so I'll be able to pass along the suggestions for you.

The solution is, like most things in business, you have to pay for the integration.

'To 'Intuit' or not to 'Intuit'... that is the question'.  Sadly, Intuit has been buying up the competition.

https://fitsmallbusiness.com/best-tax-software-for-tax-preparers/

Lacerte by Intuit is the best overall tax software for tax preparers. Lacerte’s base price starts at $447 and goes up depending on your customized needs. Lacerte has more features and digital integrations compared to other tax software. For example, Lacerte can import data from the desktop and online versions of QuickBooks as well as practice management software like OfficeTools. No other product on our list integrates with all three of these programs.

ProConnect Tax Online is best for accountants whose clients use QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Self-Employed. That’s because ProConnect Tax Online integrates very tightly with QuickBooks Online Accountant. ProConnect Tax Online has pay-per-return pricing ($20.95 to $54.95) with no annual fee. ProConnect can import Excel files and download clients’ 1099 data from financial institutions.

ProConnect Tax Online Pricing

ProConnect Tax Online has a pay-per-return pricing model. Accountants pay just for the returns they need: $43.95 for individual returns or $54.95 for business entity returns. Discounts are available for pre-purchasing tax returns in bulk. Unlike Drake, Lacerte, or ProSeries, ProConnect Tax Online does not have an annual or one-time fee.

Unfortunately, these are now both Intuit products.

To get something else, probably just easier to get a CPA - their pro products can import the QB Online data and build the return for you.

What a ridiculous problem- all software from the same company. This is why I bought turbotax and use QBO. Terrible software.

This is what I tweeted.  I encourage others to do the same on twitter and/or facebook.  This important for those looking to buy #turbo tax program to know, before they buy.  Companies respond quicker when we speak up.   Sure, we can (and will) enter the information manually but no one likes feeling like they've been duped and that is how I feel.

My tweet:   SEE REPLY TWEET BELOW

Is it not possible to export QBO online data @QuickBooks  into Turbo Tax Business by

@Intuit?  If not, why? @QBCares  --Quickbooks strongly encourages everyone to go to QBO. Now that many have made this change, why isn't this possible? If not possible, what a disappointment!

Intuit replied and said to get a free trial version of the desktop program.  What a hack.

1/2 That's a great question, Scott. Currently, the ability to directly import your QBO data to TurboTax is not yet available. The good news is, you can convert your QBO data to QuickBooks Desktop using a trial subscription and these steps: https://intuit.me/2ocm9S4. This link ^KD

2/2 covers how to get a free trial of the Desktop product: https://intuit.me/2HmJV3M. For an in-depth article on the importing process, I recommend the following site: https://intuit.me/35fFpPd. Let me know if you have any questions, as I'm here to support you any way I can. ^KD

Why not actually make it work?  There's a thought!  QB (Intuit couldn't care less about their customers).  I am actively looking to replace ALL my Intuit products and services.  Everyone should do the same.  Don't support a company that doesn't care about it's customers.

You don't and they don't care.  They have had at least a year to fix this.  Stop using Intuit products, including TurboTax.

Checking in on your following statement: "I'll personally forward this request to our Product Development Team for future product feature considerations." and send another one on my behalf, please.

Contrary to the name, Intuit products are anything but intuitive.

It did last year. For some reason it won't do it this year. Why do I pay for a dual subscription then? Really annoying. Started my taxes and Turbo tax doesn't even ask about most of my deductions.

I should be able to download a file from QBs online to my desktop that TurboTax can read. This is absurd!
