How do I undo past bank reconciliations?

I'd be happy to help you unreconcile your past bank reconciliations so they don't throw off your records, akrill.

If you’re currently using QuickBooks Online Accountant, you can utilize the Undo reconciliation feature to unreconcile previous transactions without manually editing individual transactions from within the register.

Here's how:

  1. In the left menu, click Accounting.
  2. Go to the Reconcile tab.
  3. Select History by account.
  4. Choose the account you want to reconcile and set a date range from the dropdowns.
  5. Find the reconciliation on the list.
  6. Select View report to open the Reconciliation Report.
  7. Review any discrepancies and changes your client wants to make.
  8. When you’re ready, select the dropdown ▼ in the Action column, and then select Undo.
  9. Select Yes and then Undo to confirm.

For more information on how to undo reconciliation, see this article: Undo a client’s reconciliation in QuickBooks Online Accountant.

Alternatively, you can invite an accountant to help you unreconcile the transactions.

If you use a different version, you can undo a reconciled statement by manually unreconciling each transaction. Let me walk you through the procedure step by step.

  1. Click the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Locate and choose the account you’re working on, and click on View Register.
  4. Select the transactions you want to unreconcile.
  5. Keep on clicking the R status until it shows blank or cleared (C).
  6. Click on Save.
  7. Choose Yes to confirm.

Before completing any of the steps, I suggest consulting with your accountant. This is to make sure that all of your records are in order.

If you run into any errors or problems while reconciling, refer to this article: Fix issues for accounts you've reconciled in the past in QuickBooks Online.

Should you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to leave a comment below. We're always around to help. Have a great day!

How do I undo past bank reconciliations?

It is ridiculous that your company doesn't allow QB Online users to roll back an accidental reconciliation.  It's just a way for you to squeeze more money out of us by forcing us to pay our accountant to do it for us.  It is unethical business practices like this that will have me finding a new accounting software for my company.  Your greed has motivated me to find a new company to work with.

How do I undo past bank reconciliations?

I read this solition as:

Unless you pay Intuit, or one of our partners to do your accounting for you, you may only remove reconciliation one transaction at a time. Effectively removing the ability to remove a reconciliation, so the only solution here is to pay Intuit a lot more money for a feature that should exist in the software by default.

How do I undo past bank reconciliations?

If I manually clear the reconciliations for the month of July; will I be able to go do the July reconciliation again?

How do I undo past bank reconciliations?

Allow me to clarify things so you can accurately do the reconciliation process in QuickBooks, snirp.

If you manually clear the reconciliations for the month of July, you will only be able to do the manual reconciliation of the transactions again. This is because we can only reconcile moving forward. The reconciliation process marks all the transactions that have cleared the bank and are accounted for in your accounting software. Furthermore, once the reconciliation is completed, a new starting point for the next reconciliation is created.

Here's how to manually mark the reconciled transactions as cleared in your account register:

To manually reconcile the transactions again. we can go back to the reconciliation page and clicking on We can help you fix it option. For the detailed steps, refer to the step 4 of this article: Fix issues for accounts you've reconciled in the past in QuickBooks Online.

On the other hand, if you need to reconcile from scratch, you can consider collaborating with an accountant, and inviting him/her to your QBO account to undo the entire reconciliation for July.

Additionally, you can check out this article to assist you if you come across any difficulties during the reconciliation process:: Fix issues when you're reconciling accounts.

I'm always around to lend an extra hand if you have additional questions about managing your reconciliation process or any QuickBooks transactions. Have a good one!

How do I undo past bank reconciliations?

So I would not be able to redo the reconciliation without using an accountant. Do they need a special type of software to undo a reconciliation?

Thanks for getting back with the Community, snirp.

If you're working with an accounting professional who's using a QuickBooks Accountant subscription, they'll have access to a special reconciliation tool which allows them to undo a client's reconciliation.

You can refer to our Undo a client’s reconciliation article for detailed information on this process.

The steps provided by JohncarlP are for manually unreconciling transactions one at a time. This is something you can do without an accountant, if you choose to.

After a reconciliation has been undone, you or an accountant can re-reconcile what needs to be reconciled.
