Hi there, SYDNEY14.
Let me help you split the deposit between two customers. QuickBooks will not let you record transactions that contain:
- Two A/R accounts
- Two A/P accounts
- One A/R account and one A/P account.
QuickBooks provides these workarounds to get rid of the error:
- Manage bad debt in accrual method
- Write off a receivable against a payable
- Transfer an amount between A/R or A/P accounts
- Remove A/P as the default vendor pre-fill account.
You can select Transfer an amount between A/R or A/P accounts options for your concern. I'm also adding this article as your guide: Warning: You cannot use more than one AR or AP account in the same transaction.
Upon sharing this solution, I still recommend consulting your accountant. This is to ensure you have accurate records on your books and make sure the balance on the reconciled account is correct.
I want to make sure your transactions are posted correctly to prevent errors in the future. That being said, you'll need to review the category of your deposits. Check out this link as your guide: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.
Let me know if there's anything else you need about splitting a deposit. Just leave a comment below, and I'll get back to you.
