My account used to automatically update to my accounts but no longer does, why?

Hello @kdw19,

All transactions downloaded into your bank account in QuickBooks depend on the data that has been successfully shared by your financial institution. Let's manually update your bank so you can track your online transactions accurately.

But first, may I know any name of your bank or if you receive an error message? Any details you can provide can help me look for any reported investigation associated with your bank or the error message.

Even so, the following instances below can be one of the reasons why your bank didn't update automatically:

  • If there is a minor or major update in your bank information such as the bank account number.
  • Update on your bank’s website. If you can't find your FI, you can request support for your bank and request it be added.
  • Update in your Online Banking Login credentials.
  • Bank outage and other scheduled maintenance.

That being said, here's how you can manually update or refresh your bank account and transactions:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Bank Accounts.
  3. Click Refresh All.

Lastly, I've got you this helpful article that'll guide you in categorizing your bank transactions: Create rules to speed up reviews in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

That should point you in the right direction. Please let me know how it goes in the comment section down below. I want to make sure your concern is taken care of.

My accounts are also no longer automatically updating.  I don't get an error message and I'm able to manually update, but until about a month ago, accounts updated every few days without my intervention.  Can you help?

Hi @Dash27,

Let's go through a few things you can do to get your online bank to update on its own in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

I suggest you open your browser's private browser. It isolates cache, which is the common cause for a browser's unusual behavior.

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If that works, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. Otherwise, open an alternative browser that's available for you.

In case you encounter any issues with your online banking in the future, see this article: What to do if you get a bank error or can't download transactions in QuickBooks Online

Tag me in the comments below if you have other questions about online banking in QBO. I'll handle them for you.
