My bank account wasn't connecting so I added it again and thought I disabled the original account and now it's gone along with all the transactions. What do I do?

It appears all my data is now gone for that bank account.  All I did was close out the account - or that's what I thought I did and it disappeared.

You disabled it? Go to Bank Transactions>Chart of Accounts>Over on the right there’s a small gear icon for your chart of account settings, click on this. As you scroll down those settings you’ll see Show Inactive, check the box. If you see your account listed, make it active. If not, call support, they have a tool that can see if you still have a live bank connection. Not sure if you ever clicked to disconnect or if there were any errors you encountered that caused your issue. Hope this helps!

Can you download *.qbo or *.csv files from your bank? You can import them manually to recover your data.

Good day, Tom.

Allow me to guide you in recovering your missing bank transactions as well as reconnecting your bank successfully in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Before anything else, We'd like to know the name of your bank and if there's any error message shown so we can check if there are any existing investigations about your bank unable to connect in QBO.

For now, I recommend visiting your bank's website to see if there are any notifications about system maintenance that caused the issue. Then, find if there are alternatives suggested you can perform to fix the issue.

Concerning your missing transactions, please know that if the bank is disconnected whether accidentally or not and the transactions weren't categorized, the bank transactions in the For review section will be deleted automatically.

However, if the missing transactions are categorized, I agree with what @Jen_3333  suggested to review your account history. They will appear here as long as they're not marked as excluded. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Chart of Accounts located at the left navigation panel. You can also locate it in the Gear icon.
  2. Select a bank account and click View Register.
  3. Find the transaction and press it to get more details. By doing this, you can see the complete history of the transaction.

If the bank transactions weren't there, we can manually upload your bank transactions while we're trying to figure out the root cause of why your bank account wasn't connecting.

Additionally, you can read this article if you want to categorize your bank transactions automatically in the future: Set up bank rules to categorize online banking transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have additional questions about managing your bank account and transactions by replying to this post, Keep safe, and have a good one.
