My credit card transactions are showing as recieved rather than spent. How do I fix this?

Thanks for joining the Community, @sahrang.

I'm here to help you get past this reversed error showing on your credit card transactions so you can get back to business.

To provide you with the best information, I'd be sharing some scenarios and their troubleshooting steps which possibly cause the credit card transactions to come in reversed.

Scenario 1: If the transactions were imported via CSV.

Since the transactions are coming in reversed, the file could be formatted incorrectly. Please review the following article to get this formatted correctly: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Banking-and-bank-feeds/Import-bank-transactions-from-Excel-C....

Scenario 2: If these are downloaded transactions in the banking page.

In order to trace the transactions to see why they're reflecting as received instead of spent, it would be necessary to pull up your account. This requires sharing sensitive information and as this is a public forum, I recommend contacting our phone support team.

A member of this team would be happy to help with getting along this issue.  You can find their contact information at the following link: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1145770.

Your credit card transactions should be all set after following the solutions above. If there's anything else you need, the Community is always here to provide help and answer any questions that you may have. Have a wonderful holiday week.

My credit card transactions are showing as recieved rather than spent. How do I fix this?

I had this problem as well. I download a csv from my bank and convert it to a QFX file. The program I am using to do the conversion has a heretofore unused button called "Change amount sign" that swaps deposits and withdrawls. This brought the transactions into Quickbooks as expected.

Hopefully that helps someone.

My credit card transactions are showing as recieved rather than spent. How do I fix this?

My transactions are automatically imported from my bank account in Quickbooks Online and when I get a wire in specifically, it shows as money out instead of in. Is there a way to automate these technical errors?

My credit card transactions are showing as recieved rather than spent. How do I fix this?

Let's perform some troubleshooting steps to get this

It's possible that bank transactions may be auto-added and causes them to be posted as money out. We can undo, exclude, then re-download these transactions. This way, we can download the correct transactions. First, here's how to undo them:

  1. Click Banking, then go to the Banking tab.
  2. Go to the Review tab.
  3. Select the transactions you'll want to undo, then click Undo.

Then, exclude them by following the steps below:

  1. Go to the For Review tab.
  2. Select the transactions you'll want to exclude.
  3. Click Batch actions, then select Exclude Selected.

Next, manually update the bank account so transactions will re-download. Just click the Update button on the Banking page. Once done, you can assign, categorize, edit, and add your downloaded banking transactions. We can also create bank rules that automatically categorize transactions for you. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu
  2. Select the Rules tab.
  3. Tap New rule.
  4. Enter a name in the Rule field.
  5. From the For dropdown, click Money in or Money out.
  6. From the In drop-down, choose the bank or credit card account.
  7. Set the rule conditions. Decide the transaction must meet All or Any of the conditions. You can add up to 5 conditions.
  8. In the Conditions fields, specify whether the rule applies to Bank textDescription, or Amount. Then select ContainsDoesn't contain, or Is exactly to decide when how Quickbooks applies the rules.
  9. Select the settings for the rule. Hit the Transaction typePayee, and the Category to apply.
  10. Press Save.

See the Setup bank rules to categorize online banking transactions in QuickBooks Online for the steps and details. Feel free to visit our Banking page for more insights about managing your bank feeds and reconciling accounts.

I'd like to know how you get on after trying the steps, as I want to ensure this is resolved for you. Just reply to this post and I'll get back to you. You have a good one.

My credit card transactions are showing as recieved rather than spent. How do I fix this?

i had the same issue, the credit card charges kept coming in as received not spent. Here's what I did, since in my scenario all of my transaction were charges, not credits. I just added a single fake test credit, and by the import screen I selected the option of two columns one for spent one for received. all my charges were properly imported along with my test credit, which I promptly deleted.
