Reconnecting Bank Feed to already established accounts

I am trying to find instructions that show how to reconnect a bank account to an existing Chart of Account, specifically how am I supposed to use the drop down on a credit card that has sub-accounts?

Reconnecting Bank Feed to already established accounts

Hello,

Connecting credit cards with sub-accounts can be tricky and you'll need to do a little investigating before you decide the best method.  I highly recommend that you search You Tube for a vide by Hector Garcia called "QuickBooks Online Tutorial: Connect a Credit Card with multiple sub-accounts & How to reconcile it".  He explains it better than I could.

As far as reconnecting an existing account, you'll need to disconnect the account from the bank feed before it can be available to reconnect.  Otherwise, if you don't do that step first, it will create a brand new account that will have to be merged.

   1. Look in the existing bank register to find the date of the last synced transaction.  You'll need to enter that date when you reestablish the connection.

   2. Go to the Chart of Accounts, find the bank or credit card and edit it.  Check the box that says "Disconnect this account on save" and then click Save.  That will free up the account to be reconnected.

Now you can go back to the Bank Feed and reconnect.  You will get a pop-up asking you which account to link and you should see the one that you just disconnected.  Then it will ask you the date you want to start the sync and you'll want to put in the date that you looked for in Step 1.

Hope this helps!

Hello, @dreadelsolinc.

I'm here to help reconnect your bank to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Reconnecting bank feeds to the existing account is an easy process. Before doing this, ensure to disconnect and review the account in QBO.

 Here's how.

  1. Go to Bookkeeping, select Transactions, then select Bank transactions (Take me there).
  2. Select Connect account or Link account.
  3. Follow these steps to connect your bank feeds.

You may visit these links to guide you on how to categorize your transactions and reconcile your account flawlessly:

That is a canned response and I already saw that one.

I saw one from a small bank and QuickBooks should have already authored one and have it available. I need to send to a client and like to send only QuickBooks documents.

You have to show everyone how to reconnect after disconnecting using already established chart of accounts that have data already.

Thank you for your quick response, dreadelsolinc. Let me clarify things for you today so you can establish your bank feed connection again.

To ensure we're on the same page, can you provide a screenshot of your Banking screen or Chart of Accounts window? This way, I can review your options and the dropdown menus you've mentioned.

On the other hand, reconnecting a disconnected bank account can be done through your Chart of Accounts. Here's how:

  1. Select Chart of Accounts from the Gear icon.
  2. Look for the account you want to link.
  3. Tap on the dropdown menu under Action.
  4. Click on Connect.
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions to proceed.

I'm adding this screenshot as your visual reference.

Another option for you is to reconnect it through the Banking page. I'm adding this article as your reference: Connect bank and credit card accounts to QuickBooks Online.

Additionally, the system won't allow you to connect both a parent account and its subaccounts. Before you decide to, learn how your bank sends the downloaded transactions. If the transactions download to one account, connect only the parent account. If the entries download to the individual accounts, connect the subaccounts.

You may review the resources from this article for more information: About bank or credit card subaccount setup.

If you have any other banking concerns, kindly let me know by leaving a comment below. I can assist you once more in a few clicks. Keep safe!

Reconnecting Bank Feed to already established accounts

I had a credit card connected to my online bank and it was automatically downloading txs.  The credit card changed the URL to access the txs and it no longer worked and I couldn't find a way to edit the URL connection.  After the first spending time w/QB support (they told me an engineer would have to change the URL - and that was bogus and never happened).  The second time I called customer support my options were either manually downloading a file and then uploading or creating a new credit card account.  I thought maybe if I stopped downloading on my initial credit card account, I could restart it with the new URL, so I disconnected the acct but it disappeared from the 'Bank Transaction' screen so I can't relink it at all.  I created a new credit card account thinking I'd start downloading txs in that one from the time the URL was changed and keep the old credit card account for history.  Can't figure out how to link that one since it also isn't appearing on the 'Bank Transaction' screen. Ugh! any help/suggestions would be very much appreciated.  Really frustrated with QB Help desk giving me bogus info. Thanks, Peter

Good evening, @pguman

Thanks for stopping by the Community with your question.

If the bank isn't showing on the list to be able to link it to QuickBooks, then you'll need to submit feedback so our Product Developers can consider adding your new bank. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon in the top right-hand corner.
  2. Press the Feedback option.
  3. Enter your suggestions, and tap Next

I'm only a post away if you have any other questions. Bye for now!

Thanks Candice: when you say the 'bank' do you mean the credit card acct itself ? that's my real issue.

Hello there, pguman! I appreciate your quick response to my colleague's post. I'd be pleased to clarify that for you!

Yes, you may use a credit card account or a bank account in filling out suggestions. Notably, our Product Development team uses your input to enhance QuickBooks Online (QBO) and make it even better for you.

You can track feature requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

In addition, if you have tried all the options matching your bank's name and still can't connect, or if your bank doesn’t appear, request support for your bank.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Transactions, then select Bank transactions.
  2. Select Link account.
  3. Search for the name of your financial institution. If QuickBooks is unable to find your bank, you will get the message, "Hmm, we can’t find [name of the bank you entered] in our list of supported banks," and you will be presented with helpful tips to try and locate your bank account.
  4. If you’re still unable to find your bank, select Request.
  5. Enter your bank's web address (URL) in the field provided, then select Request.

Moreover, you might find it helpful to check out this article to get more information: Record your payments to credit cards in QuickBooks Online.

Please do comment down below if you have more questions about your online banking in your QuickBooks Online. We're always available 24/7 to help you. Have a great day!

Let me elaborate on some details on why your credit card account isn't showing on the list, pguman.

When your credit card or bank account isn't listed the way you expect it to be, it's because the account isn't supported. As @VoltF mentioned, you'll have to request support from your bank. Here's how:

  1. Go to Transactions, then select Bank transactions.
  2. Click Connect account.

In the meantime, you'll want to manually upload transactions to keep up with the old while waiting for your request from your bank. You can check out this article for more details: Manually Upload Transactions Into QuickBooks Online.
