Unable to Download Bank Feed with Direct Connect - Quickbooks Mac Desktop 2024

Hi All,

 

I'm hoping to get some help with my current bank feed issues. I recently purchased the Quickbooks Desktop 2024 Mac Edition after being told that my 2021 version will no longer work properly after May 2024. After the purchase I proceeded to install and upgrade all of my files to the 2024 version. Initially after I upgraded the files, the download bank feed feature worked just fine, but it stopped working when I swapped to a different account to try to download the feed. Now nothing will download and the message I'm getting is "There were problems with the account(s) at your financial institution."

 

I spoke to my bank (Chase Bank) and they found no issues on their end. Additionally I reopened my 2021 file and tried to do the download and it WORKED. So it seems like the issue is with he 2024 version. 

 

I have also tried to disconnect the accounts from the bank feed and reapplying the connection, but it wont reconnect. When I try to reapply the connection, it just says all my accounts have already been connected.

 

Im super unhappy about all this as I was told I had to upgrade to 2024 which cost a WOOPING $640 annually and after upgrading I can only find errors and bugs in this newer version.

 

Has anyone else experienced this and if so if you have any fixes please let me know.

Let's fix your bank feed issues so you can start working with QuickBooks, KT9160.

 

You'll have to make sure the financial institution list is up-to-date for the bank feeds to download. If it's not downloading, follow the steps below:

 

  1. Go to File, then Close Company.
  2. Press both the Command button and the number 1 on your keyboard to display the Product Information window.
  3. Select the Logging tab, then select Delete FiDir.
  4. Close and reopen QuickBooks.
  5. Open your company file, then go to Banking, then Online Banking Setup to try and reconnect to your account.

 

If this doesn’t fix the issue, proceed with these steps:

 

  1. Go to File and select New Company.
  2. Create a name for the test file, then Save.
  3. Complete the Create New Company wizard, then select Finish.
  4. Add the account that was experiencing issues to the Chart of Accounts.
  5. Set up Online Banking for that account.
  6. Select Download transactions.

Install the trial version of QB Desktop 2022 and 2023 to isolate the problem. Did you encounter the same error message?

I followed your direction to delete the FiDir log but still resulted in the same message. Then i went to delete the FiDir log file again and disconnected all accounts and tried to reconnect it, but i get the same message that all accounts have already been connected.

 

When i created a new test file and set up the bank account, the banking feed works perfectly and i am able to download all transactions for all accounts.

 

Like I mentioned above, I have the previous 2021 version as well and the bank feed works fine when i swap back to that version. This is only happening with the 2024 version after the company file conversion.

Hi 4Gal. I didn't try 2022 or 2023, but since i have 2021 and the feed works fine in that version, I don't believe its my bank's fault. There is something wrong with the 2024 file after conversion.

Sounds like the same issues as here:

Recapping:

1. Chase has an issue when setting up accounts for the first time where Safari doesn't work. The work around is to set the default system browser to be Google Chrome when setting up the account. Once its set up you can switch back to Safari.

 

2. There is an issue with the backend servers where sometimes the banks don't get disassociated on the server side (even though you disconnected them in QuickBooks).  Support reps should be able to disconnect the banks on the server side but dunwoody was having no luck getting them to help.  I'm trying to get that done and working with support personnel in hopes that they can help with this. 

 

Ultimately I'm hoping to get #2 fixed by the team responsible. And #1 has been reported to Chase.

@IntuitBrooks Thank you for the reply and link to the other forum conversation about this. I read through the other post and it seems they are having similar issues but not exactly the same. 

 

Chase Safari Issue - Im not really experiencing this issue. When i go to reconnect my account and the pop-up window is opened through safari, im able to login and verify but when it takes you to the screen where you select which Bank account to associate with which QB account, it just says all accounts have been set up already and does not give you the option to select anything.

 

So based on that it seems im experiencing the same back end disassociating issue as Dunwoody. The only thing i can add that might be different is that I still have my 2021 version of all my files and to test out where the issue is, i had reopened the 2021 version and was able to download all the bank feeds, disassociate and reapply account association with no issues. This seems to ONLY be happening to the 2024 version.

Yes, it does sound like the disassociating issue. I'm asking questions to try and be certain that the assumption that it is on the server side is correct. 2021 originally used different methods for online banking though I believe its all since been updated at the financial institution side's request.  I could be wrong.

 

Will let you know what I find out. In the meantime use QuickBooks->QuickBooks Feedback to contact us. Include a link to this url and include your realm number from the Help->Product Info screen.  That way i can add it to the request on the server side to clear all the bank associations. Though so far I'm not 100% certain that's the issue.

@IntuitBrooks So a little update from my end on this issue. Yesterday I tried to reset-up my bank feed after disconnecting all accounts and doing direct wed download for the past 1-2 weeks and surprisingly it worked. All accounts showed up and I was able to reconnect them and download the bank feed.

 

Now the morning after, I am back to getting the same message "There were problems with the account(s) at your financial institution." 

 

This issue is very very frustrating to deal with considering what I just had to pay to get this version of Quickbooks Desktop. I cant believe Intuit still has not fixed this problem.

@Irene R I have contacted QB troubleshooting and your teams multiple times but all I get is the same generic troubleshooting answers. Then when I post on this forum you guys just respond with the same  generic responses. This problem we're experiencing is not exclusive to us and it appears many users are reporting the same issue. Its not a chase issue but a Intuit issue.

I assume to instructions to delete FIDir was to disconnect the bank accounts and start over.  However, even though I deleted the FIDir and was told that the FIDir file did not exist, when I went to Online Banking Setup my bank told me the accounts were already activated and the download failed again.

I have the SAME issue, with QB for Mac 2022 version. It had all been working fine, then randomly a couple of Chase accounts (we have multiple Chase credit card accounts) stopped downloading.  I have been manually downloading.  One of the accounts did not work at all so we disabled Online banking, and now we cannot even MANUALLY import the QBO files because it is not associated with any account, AND WE CANNOT LINK IT TO CHASE because Quickbooks says it is ALREADY linked. 

 

But it is not!

 

I do not have time to manually enter all these transactions!  This started in January. I have three months of transactions I can't upload.  

 

Please immediately provide a fix.

The latest updates contain a fix for an online banking issue.  This issue occurred when you logged into a financial  institution in two different company files using the same One Intuit ID log in credentials (user name and password). These updates are rolling out to all the supported versions one at a time beginning last week.  If this sounds like the issue you hit read on...  (if not let me know and we'll delve deeper).

 

So the first thing is to run QuickBooks->Check For Updates, if you haven't updated recently.  If no update is available wait a few days and try again. 

 

Chase not showing up as available means the servers think your Chase account is associated with a QuickBooks account. It sounds like that's not the case in your QuickBooks company file.  Once you have the update you can fix that by choosing Banking->Online Banking Setup... while holding down the option key.  You'll see a "Manage Connections" button.  Click on that.  Then find the Chase account and click on the button to the right of it (looks like three dots) and choose "Unlink Chase Account".  Do this for any other accounts that show as already associated when you try to set them up that aren't showing as associated in the QuickBooks file.  

 

There was an error with Chase where the initial sign up was failing in the Safari browser.  Chase has fixed that as far as I know but that's one way this error state could have occurred.  I think....  its tough to remember all the specifics.

I posted this in the other thread... I'm not sure which of these worked, but this is the sequence I did. 

 

For my fellow Mac users...

I read this comment, and of course these options don't exist on the Mac version. But I did do a Close Company/Log off, and then I did a de-authorization/reauthorization.

That didn't work, but I did stumble upon a Delete FiDir option in the process... a quick Google search took me to this thread:

I did this, restarted, and direct connect worked immediately for the first time in 5 months!

I mentioned the other two steps, because I'm not sure if they are necessary or not.

I am having this exact same problem but only with Chase Bank.  Citibank is working fine.  3 days ago Chase worked and now it goes through the motions, it connects, says it is downloading transactions and then an error message pops up. "There were problems with your account(s) at your financial institution"

 

I also just downloaded 2024, and Quickbook Tech support helped me set it up, it was working fine for 1 week.  We should at least get a rebate since the software is so expensive and always, always glitchy.
