For a company taxed as a sole proprietor (schedule C) or partnership (form 1065), I recommend you have the following for owner/partner equity accounts (one set for each partner if a partnership)
[name] Equity (do not post to this account it is a summing account)
>> Equity
>> Equity Drawing - you record value you take from the business here
>> Equity Investment - record value you put into the business here

I don't have the "equity" category. what should I do?

In QuickBooks Online, you should have an Equity account regardless of your version. Since you don't have the "Equity" account, you can perform troubleshooting steps to fix this. You can start with logging into your account using a private browser to roll out possible webpage issues.

If you now have the Equity account, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache to refresh the program. As an alternative, you can use other supported browsers.
