Join nowI'm trying to reconcile a credit card that has an overpayment of statement balance. How do I reconcile it?
Solved! Go to Solution.
It doesn't matter if it's an underpayment, a full payment, or an overpayment.
Record the payment as normal, as a check (probably) written to the CC account. Basically, a transfer of funds from your bank account to your CC account.

@BDavis01 RE: We made an overpayment on our business card so on my statement I have a credit balance. How do I enter that as my starting balance for the month on my reconciliation??
You don't. The Beginning Balance is whatever the last statement's Ending Balance was. Instead, enter the negative statement balance as a negative Ending Balance.
Thank you for your replies!!! When I enter the negative ending balance ( ex: -200.00) QB does not recognize it as a negative which is resulting in my ending balance being off to the positive by that amount. Is there a trick to entering a negative balance?
Any other suggestions?
THANKYOU!
I have the online version of QB.
It's odd that you're unable to add a negative amount, BDavis01.
Let's run some steps to isolate the cause of the issue. To start with, enter the amount on a private window. There are times when a browser's cache data becomes full of frequently accessed websites or damaged. You can use these keyboard keys to open one:
If you can enter a negative amount, you can go back to your regular browser and clear the cache to delete those temporarily stored files and browsing history. The overtime collection of data can create corruption, however, removing this should fix the issue. You can also use other supported, up-to-date browsers to roll out the possibility of a browser-related issue.
I've also added these references as your guide in reconciling the accounts:
