Join nowWe recently changed our credit card to autopay to pay the balance each month. Despite asking Chase to pay the printed statement balance, they pay the statement balance less any credits that come from returns. When I go to reconcile our checking account, the payment amount in QB is different from the bank statement due to the credit that Chase applied.
If I undo the credit card reconciliation to match the bank statement, the credit card statement New Balance does not match the QB beginning balance since the credit that Chase took when making the payment is on the next month's statement, but I had to apply it to the previous month's statement to reconcile the checking account. I cannot figure out the best solution other than to stop auto payment.
Simple problem, yet complicated at the same time. Thank you!
I appreciate the steps you've taken, Karen B3. I'm here to help you resolve these reconciliation issues.
You don't need to undo the reconciliation but create a bill instead. Here's how:
Right after, record the payment with credit. Here are the steps:
I've got you these articles that provide steps on how to fix issues when reconciling in QBDT:
I'd appreciate it if you'd update me on how it goes. I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you.
I am having the same problem. Karen, you described the situation very well. Because the credit cards are reconciled, the system does not seem to allow me to pay an amount different from the bill. If I enter the credits, I cannot apply them until the bill is created for the following month. There has to be a better solution to this problem. Anyone??
Thanks for checking in with us, mindyp321.
After reconciling the credit card account, there are two options to pay a portion of the outstanding balance. We can write a Check to pay expenses that are to be paid immediately or enter a bill for vendor bills to be paid at a future date. In your case, we can delete the bill and enter a check to pay expenses immediately.
Before doing this one, create a backup company file just in case if you ever run into problems, we can use your backup to restore your data. Here's how to enter a check:
I'd still suggest consulting your accountant. They can guide you on how to handle this one to ensure your book is accurate. In case you encounter some issues upon reconciling in the future, here's an article you can refer to for more details on fixing reconciliation issues in QuickBooks Desktop.
I'll address any other concerns you might have regarding reconciling your accounts. If you'd like to take care of your reports and transactions, lay down the details below and I'll help you out.
