Reconciliation

A small NGO switched from Quickbooks to Quickbooks online. Accounts are set up and information in entered, but they don't understand online and asked me to help get them reconciled and caught up. I have started with Jan 2021 and each time I move on to the next month to start reconciling, the blue checks and transactions are all still there alongwith transactions (unchecked) from previous months and future months. Shouldn't the blue checked lines go away once the reconciliation for that month is finished and saved? I don't know how to continue as having the checked transactions in the list it affects the `'cleared totals" and amount left to balance.

Reconciliation

Hello there, @Gogo2. Welcome to QuickBooks Community.

Let's figure out why the blue checked lines remain when starting reconciliation for a new month.

As long as the Finish now option is selected when reconciling accounts, the blue checked will go away. You can refer to the screenshot I've added below for additional reference:

In your case, it could be that the Save for later option or Close without saving is selected. That is why they're still showing when doing the next reconciliation for the coming months. Though, you can select one of these options when you’re still trying to figure out why the “Difference” between “Statement ending balance” and “Cleared balance” is not zero.

Since these are reconciled transactions, we can also identify if your transactions have been cleared or reconciled based on their status under the Checkmark column in your account register. Within the Chart of Accounts tab, locate the correct account. Then, click the View register under the Action column.

However, if the Finish now option was clicked successfully, I'd recommend logging in to your QBO account in a private browser. If everything works fine, you can delete the browser cache. Those steps help when unusual behavior happens during QuickBooks Online navigation. Also, you can use another supported browser.

As always, I'd suggest running the reconciliation report since you've already reconciled your account. It helps you review your beginning, ending balances, cleared, and uncleared transactions during that period. Note: You can seek further advice from your accountant if there's a need to correct your previous reconciliation.

Reconciliation

I did click the "FINISH" button and viewed my reconciliation reports. They all show up in reconciliation history. Since receiving your reply I have opened Quickbooks Online in Chrome, Safari, and incognito in Chrome and I have cleared cache. The blue checked transitions all still appear. Please help!! I also went to "register" and the transactions have "R" or "C" in the status column.

Reconciliation

Hello Gogo2!

Thanks for the reply. I'm here to further assist you in reconciling your accounts.

The transactions with a blue checkmark in the reconciliation page are the cleared ones. The same goes with the transactions with a C in the register. These transactions will still appear in the reconciliation page if they are included in the period that you're reconciling, unless they are reconciled already.

It's great that you're able to use a different browser and cleared the cache. Now, it means that these transactions are not reconciled yet since they still have the letter C in the register and still showing in the reconciliation page.

It could be that these entries were unreconciled and you'll need to reconcile them again to fix it. If there's any changes in a reconciled transaction, an error will display when you try to reconcile the account again. Please check this article for the detailed steps on how to resolve it: Fix beginning balance issues in QuickBooks Online.

Also, you can check this article to learn more on how to balance your accounts: Learn the reconcile workflow in QuickBooks. This has different links if you encountered other concerns with reconciliation.

Keep on posting here if you have other concerns like this. Take care!
