Our business has a monthly lease payment that includes electrical. We decided this should be split going forward. I need to fix the last several payments that weren't split.
I went to the first one, unmatched it, re-entered it as a split and saved. However in the bank register, there is now the split transaction and another transaction for the same amount that is not split. I thought unmatching would remove the old transaction. I'm attaching a screen shot--I wiped the $ amounts for privacy but they are the same. Do I just delete the second transaction? Not sure what to do here.
The other question I have is, to fix the last several months will involve doing this with reconciled transactions so what other issues are going to arise? Thanks.
Hello there, @comet52.
I've got some insights to share with you about handling split transactions in QuickBooks Online.
To avoid a transaction from being duplicated if you un-match then split it, you'll have to re-match it after saving it. I can show you how:
To undo transaction:
After that, stay on the Banking page and follow these steps to re-match it:
In case you'll have further questions specific to accounting or your register especially reconciled transactions, I suggest getting in touch with your accountant. They'll be able to look into this further and give you the best resolution to your issue.

That just rematches it as a rent check and the electric is no longer categorized. The split got lost.
Let me guide you on what you can do with your split transaction, comet52.
Any changes made to your reconciled transaction such as editing or deleting may affect your books. You'll want to make the changes directly from those transactions that were already reconciled. You can undo the reconciliation and edit the transaction that wasn't split yet.
Then, you can reconcile those transactions after editing them. In connection to this, you can delete those transactions that you no longer need and weren't reconciled yet. You can click the Delete button to remove duplicates. I've attached a screenshot for your guide.
Additionally, learn how to view and export reconciliation reports in QuickBooks. I've added this article for your reference: How Do I View, Print, or Export A Reconciliation Report?
