The error you're having when trying to categorize your transactions can be caused by the piled-up cache in your regular browser. It stores temporary internet files from your browsing history. As it collects too many files, it can cause some issues in your account.
I've got some steps to help fix this issue. First, sign in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser. This helps isolate the issue since it doesn’t store data in the cache.
Here are the following keyboard shortcuts:
If it works, here's how to clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online. Restart your browser right after. You can also try to check with other supported browsers (Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, Microsoft Edge) if the steps above don't work.

I'm getting this "Select an account for this transaction" error when trying to categorize transactions in my PayPal bank account, even though a valid account (Inventory) has been selected for each one. This is happening for 6 transactions in the queue, although other transactions in this account were able to be categorized without error. I've tried running Quickbooks in a Private Safari Browser, and installed a fresh instance of Chrome to try it there as well, but I get the error in every instance. I've been categorizing these transactions imported from PayPal for years without any issue until these six ones right now. It seems like either QBO issue since my testing suggests it isn't a browser problem. Please advise!
I recognize the importance of categorizing your transaction, @BrickJoy.

I tried your approach and am still getting the same error. I attempted to categorize the transactions on both Chrome and Edge - both gave me the error message. It is currently only affecting transactions from PayPal for a select number of vendors (both with and without rule's applied). I have no issues with transactions from my business bank account. Do you have a work around?
I recognize the efforts you've put into resolving the issue you encountered, krazedbuilds. Let me join this conversation and give updates on the investigation created for this problem.
As my colleague provided, there's currently an investigation about PayPal transactions not posting properly in QuickBooks Online (QBO) (INV-97458). Rest assured, our product engineers are working diligently to get this fixed. Since this is a recent investigation case, there's no current workaround. Therefore, I encourage contacting our Support Team to add you to the list of affected users and be informed promptly once the issue is resolved.

As a future reference, let me add this troubleshooting guide when you can't see recent transactions in QBO: What to do if you get a bank error or can't download transactions in QuickBooks Online.
If you have further updates on the situation or other QBO-related concerns, we're just a post away. Take care.
I've got the same issue with the Vivaldi browser (Chrome derivative). Only certain transactions cannot resolve giving the error "Select an account for this transaction." Attempting the same functionality in a private browser, on an Edge browser, or clearing the cache does not resolve the issue. In the network tab of the dev tools I'm not seeing anything that looks like a glaring error being returned from the request when the Confirm button is clicked. *shrug*

March 1st and I'm getting this error. I've got 70+ transactions that won't import because of this.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, joegilder.
I acknowledge the difficulties you're encountering while bringing your transactions into QuickBooks Online (QBO). Allow me to guide you through some troubleshooting steps to effectively bring the entries into your company.
Before we start, can you share the name of your Financial Institution (FI)? This is to check if there are any reported issues. If you are using PayPal, there is an open investigation regarding users unable to categorize entries in the bank feeds.
As a workaround, create an expense or income transaction and match the PayPal entry to categorize it. After that, contact our QuickBooks Online (QBO) Care Team so you can subscribe to the notification list to receive email updates about the investigation.
Regarding your other concern, you're unable to use the invoicing system to bill the wasted hours. However, you can inform our specialists about this matter, and they'll provide detailed guidance on how to handle the situation effectively.
If you're not using PayPal, let's perform some basic troubleshooting steps to move past the error. When your browser is congested with frequently accessed page resources, it can lead to irregular responses in QBO. Log in to your account in incognito mode, which does not save browsing history and runs much faster.
Here are the shortcut keys in each browser:
Once signed in, categorize the entries in the bank feeds. If this works, clear the cache of your regular browser to optimize the browsing experience. Utilizing another browser is a great alternative.
Refer to this article for an alternative way to import your banking data into QBO: Manually upload transactions.

I tried all the proposed solutions. it's a Paypal problem. I'm kinda surprised y'all haven't fixed it yet.
The only workaround that worked for me was to manually import all Paypal Transactions with a CSV file. I had to do that in multiple phases, because the import system is kinda dumb and won't import deposits and expenses at the same time.
I understand the importance of being able to categorize PayPal transactions in bank feeds, joegilder. I'm here to share insight about this.
