Can't manually import .qbo bank transactions file

Thanks.  No, I have not asked them, but I will.  However, the process worked for years with this same account until one day recently when it suddenly stopped working and QB no longer saw the account in its drop down list for downloading and importing transactions as a QBO.
All my other accounts have matching account numbers in both the Edit Account window and the Online Settings window.  I will call the bank, but it seems deeper than that.

"Worked for Years" is Moot. All you have seen in the real world is Security updates, OS updates, program updates, server updates, two-step authentication, etc. Did you try disabling online activity for the existing account and making it fresh with a new Bank in QB? That would be one diagnostic step.

Thank you.  Ha...yes, moot, for sure!  I understand.  I was going to disable and start over.  But I do have several years of transaction memos and splits that I'm concerned would be lost if I had to reimport six years of transactions.  Someone on this thread said their register went blank after disabling and re-enabling.  Would that actually happen?  Or would all my existing transactions remain in place?  I just want to be sure before I do that action.

You won't lose Existing data. It's already in the file.

I'm using this utility to convert .QBO file to .IIF format and then I can import into my old version.

Was way cheaper than upgrading.    https://www.propersoft.net/products/bank2iif

I am having this same issue.  When I look at the account setup, my routing number is shown as all zeros, but I cannot edit it.  How do I change this number?  Thanks!

Here are the easy steps to edit your bank routing number, tiguer7.

First, deactivate your Online Banking. Make sure that there are no transactions left in the Banking page. Then, update the bank routing number. Afterwards, reactivate your Online Banking.

You’ll want to read through this article about Bank Feeds.

Let me know if you have other questions. I’ll be here to help.

Can't manually import .qbo bank transactions file

I have Capital One Spark account, so I don't have online banking access in Quickbooks Mac 2016. Up until Sept 2018 I could import the download .qbo file from capital one. Since Sept 2018, to simply click on the file, which would import, no longer works. I did check the ACCTID in the file as Matt had mentioned and the ACCTID is the same in both Quickbooks and the .qbo file as well. I am very small starting out, so even if I download and try to import 1 month of transactions, Quickbooks crashes, regardless. I checked the details for my checking account, which is this same capital one account and online access is disabled because naturally capital one spark isn't in the list of banks with online. Are there any other solutions that perhaps I have overlooked?

Miki thank you!! I signed up for a different small business banking today. I've about had it with Capital One account simply period! This is minor compared to how they handle their online banking period. So unfortunately its not worth me spending any more time on this, I will manually input the same way I have been doing since Sept. 2018.

Can't manually import .qbo bank transactions file

2/15/2019:  Hello Matt,  Thanks for insight, but after doing all that you suggested, I still can't get my bank file to import into QB Desktop Pro Plus 2018 / Windows 10.  The account ID on the QB account and the account ID on the bank (WF) file are one and the same.  My last download doing this function was in January 2018 and I had NO problems (3 WF Accts). By the way, the bank ID Acct # and the QB Bank Acct # were the same.

Each time I try to download now, QB tells me the bank file can't download because I don't have the correct QB bank account and that I should try to select the appropriate QB account, yet none of my bank accounts are shown in the QB drop down selection.

Totally, frustrated with QB support

Appreciate any insight you or others might offer.

Thanks

Hello there, @CamarilloJA.

I appreciate the details and the steps you've taken. I can help you resolve the download error message you're getting.

The workaround provided by Matt is great. However, since it didn't do the trick in the end, I advise calling our phone support team once more. Community is a public forum, and the security of your account is my top priority. Phone support has access and tools, such as screen sharing, to help you further.

If you have a case number, that would help streamline the process. Your case number has the previous agent's notes according to what happened to your issue. This way, you won't be repeating yourself.

  1. Go to  https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contactus.
  2. Select QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Choose your QuickBooks for Windows version.
  4. Select the issue/topic.
  5. Click the Get Phone Number button to see the support number.

Before you go, I want you to know that your voice matters and I'm submitting feedback on your behalf. Feedback is sent to the Management Team to determine what we need to implement moving forward to provide the best QuickBooks experience and ensure this doesn't happen again.

Let me know how it goes or if there's anything else I can for you. Just add a comment below or mention my name. Thank you for understanding.

Can't manually import .qbo bank transactions file

Hello there, @Thompson.

Thank you for reaching out and letting us know you're one of the affected users. I can help you add your transactions in QuickBooks for Mac.

Being unable to download the Capital One transactions directly in QuickBooks is identified as an on-going issue. While I'm unable to provide a definite time frame for when this will be fixed, rest assured that I’ll update the post once there’s progress.

You can try the recommendation given by Matt, or you can also download your transactions outside QuickBooks and manually upload them here in QuickBooks.

In case you encounter challenges, you can contact our phone support for further assistance. You can also ask the agent to add you for our notification list. You can scroll up a little to get our phone directory.

Let me know how it goes, Thompson. Please also keep me posted if there's anything else I can do for you. Just click the "Reply" button or mention my name.

Thanks for joining the thread, Jetsah.

I can help you get in the right direction for determining why you're bank transactions aren't importing properly.

Our former colleague matts provided a great workaround for this issue. I'd highly recommend that you give it a try. However, if you've already tried it, then I'd suggest reaching out to the Phone Support Team. They have additional resources and can initiate a screen sharing session to help you resolve this right away.

Keep me posted with the result, I'm determined to get this fixed for you. Thanks again for coming to the Community, I'll be standing by for your response.

Same issue with my existing Amex account - worked for May, won't recognize the account for June or July. Just contacted Amex support to see if they knew anything, and was given a message that the QB/Quicken download feature isn't currently working (although it is still available on their website). So, I'll be entering transactions manually, with oh so many thanks to both companies.

Can't manually import .qbo bank transactions file

Hello, @ProGaitWays.

Let me share additional steps to help you update your AMEX bank transactions.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Select Import.
  4. Click Web Connect Files.
  5. Select the QBO file you've saved, then select Open.
  6. When prompted to Select Bank Account, choose:
    • Use an existing QuickBooks account if the account you are importing the transactions into is already set up in QuickBooks.
    • Create a new QuickBooks account if the account you are importing the transactions into is not yet in QuickBooks. Type a name.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. Go to the Bank Feeds Center to review your transactions.

You can refer to this article for more detailed instructions: Troubleshoot Bank Feeds Web Connect import issues and errors.

Also, you can use the Batch Enter Transactions tool. Just download your transaction directly from your bank's website and manually enter it in QuickBooks. For step-by-step instructions, you can check this article: Enter batch transactions.

Keep me posted if you have other questions. I'm just a few clicks away.

Can't manually import .qbo bank transactions file

Thanks. As I noted in my previous post, I have successfully imported Amex transactions from this same account, as recently as two months ago, so the process is familiar.

The last time I used it, my Amex account was correctly listed as one of the bank account options. Now, it isn't. If I create a new bank account - and thus, a new account in the Chart of Accounts - then I will have two disconnected/unrelated Amex accounts, which is not useful.

The link to the article is appreciated, but doesn't appear to contain any information that pertains to my problem.

Batch entry, or individual transaction entry, appear to be my only choices. That's unfortunate.
