How can I edit the layout of the Bill to and Ship to location of a packing slip?
There is no easy way to fold a packing slip to fit into a packing slip envelope with the ship to showing..
Desk Top version was easier to adjust this setting.
please advise
I appreciate you for joining in the thread, @DBDBD.
Let me provide insights about editing a packaging slip layout
I recognize the importance of being able to edit a packaging slip layout. As of now, it's not an option in QuickBooks Online. As a workaround, you can create a new custom form style and rename it Packing Slip. Thus, I'd also suggest sending us feedback to let our product engineers know about it. This way, they can consider it in the next feature release to improve your QBO experience.
Here's how you can do it:
Also, sending feedback can be done by going to the Gear icon, then select Feedback.
You can also check out these helpful articles for more presentable templates.
Just message us back if you have other concerns with QuickBooks and customizing forms. We'll make sure to respond as soon as we can. Have a good one!
I don't know who the heck created QBO but obviously they have never ran a business or had to use this piece of junk. NO ONE and I mean NO ONE has ever had an "idea" or "request" sent to your freaking design team that was actually ever changed. You created this piece of crap to make money off of 3rd party apps. This thread goes back 2+ years and it is STILL a problem. Do you have any idea how frustrating it is to you this useless software to try and run a business???????? You have to be able to type in warehouse times, Appointment times, Weight, carton and pallet count. Come on....get somebody to actually fix these problems not give out useless workarounds. Better yet why don't you ask your design team to actually respond to these requests as to why they can't be done. How freaking complicated could it be for them to simply print the freaking notes section that prints on the invoice to print on packing slip????? It is LUDICROUS and complete joke.
Hello, I am not an expert on Quickbooks by any means but what I did (I have the desktop version) , I went to Items, templates and looked up packing slip. From there I was able to edit. Hope this helps. Jenn
Following this process 1) does not replace the default packing slip, and 2) the pricing information CANNOT be removed, as it is an invoice template. Please refer to the previous example with screenshots. From this thread, alone, people have been asking for the packing list to be editable for 4 years now. Do something about it please!
Also, using the gear icon to send feedback, locked up the tab in my browser. I had to close it, and open a new tab. So here I am, to leave my feedback.
Seems fruitless to even request any changes even a simple one. QB does want it wants when it wants.
For me, the packing slip template should be separate from the invoice template. For the packing slip, we needed the quantity column to be after the Product Number. The packing slip comes from the default template you used and no way to change it separately.
Editing the ship date to THE ACTUAL ship date is quite important! Right now every pack list we generate has the "ship date" as the date the order was processed....not the ACTUAL date it ships. I am honestly getting so tired of QBD and the excuses you guys bring every time we have issues! Yes, you see how important editing the pack list so the information on it is actually correct...so fix it!!!!!!!! We pay big bucks for this garbage!
But then you can't change which template is used. It just automatically picks the default.
then QB asks for a survey to be filled out....when I did and raised numerous questions about the packing slip, the survey suddenly disappeared.
QB is worthless and I would never recommend it. Someone should start a new software company
I was forced to upgrade and I can't stand this software! I had the 2018 desktop version and it was do-able. this is junk and I can't do anything I need to for my business. Very little customization and things are in weird spots. It doesn't make sense that I have to make an invoice then go find customers to print a dang packing slip. Horrible software!
3 years later and no solution from QB on this!!!! WOW!! Glad we're switching systems this year!
Just wanted to add our internal fix for this, not the ideal fix but worked for now. We added the SKU# for all products to the item description so now it prints the sku on all forms along with the description. You'll have to unclick SKU# on the invoice form or any other form it's selected on so you don't have duplicate SKU#'s listed.
I agree completely. I DO NOT WANT THE RECEIVING DEPARTMENT TO SEE THE AMOUNTS OR THE WORD "INVOICE". That's what I get for switching to the online version from the desktop version where I had a PACKING SLIP TEMPLATE WITH NO AMOUNTS and it SAID "PACKING SLIP".
Now we are having to print the invoice, white out the amounts, and photocopy the whiteout version.
What a disappointment!
That is disturbing to hear. In the desktop version, we had a simple template that let us custom-make a PACKING SLIP with pertinent information. The fact that this has not been fixed is making us look at other options. It is sad that we pay for this service and HAVE NO VOICE IN MODIFYING the way WE use it.
Hi there, @Aeri2023. I can imagine what you must be going through. I know how beneficial for your business to have the option to customize the packing slip. I'm here to share information about this.
Currently, the option to modify the packing slip is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). That said, you can perform the workaround you've stated above in the meantime.
Also, to request the addition of this feature, I recommend submitting feedback to our product developers. This way, they can further review this specific part of QBO and consider implementing it in future updates. Here's how:
You can also visit our Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online website to track the suggestion you've submitted.
In case you need to modify other sales forms in QBO, feel free to check this article: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
If you have other concerns managing your templates, please don't hesitate to leave a reply below. Have a good one, and stay safe.
We are also looking at other options. "Future updates" has been going on for YEARS NOW. FREAKING YEARS! How much trouble is it to design and implement a new packing slip that is a different color or style with a different layout. Come on people!
After reading everyone's replies...I, too, have decided to add my voice to this thread. I absolutely cannot understand the "packing slip" option for QuickBooks Online. QuickBooks...DO BETTER! This thread is years old and no resolution has been defined. I need to be able to edit the "Ship To" address on a packing slip, as we do drop ship orders for our distributors. I do not want the distributors name listed above the customer's name, and should be able to change this. Instead, I am having to save the packing slips that are generated, upload them to photoshop, photoshop out any details the customer and our warehouse do not need to see, and then save the revised packing slip. This workaround is tedious, ANNOYING, and shouldn't have to be an option. If we pay for QuickBooks Online to handle our invoicing and sales needs, then again...DO BETTER AND LISTEN TO YOUR PAYING CUSTOMERS!!
When i try to print a packing slip with this method:
Customer Transaction list
Check the box i want packing slip for
Batch Action
Print Packing slip.
then it comes up with a picture and prints a invoice. What am i doing wrong?
Hi there, sean.
May I know how did you add the packing lists in QuickBooks Online? This way, we can verify why this occurs. A screenshot would be a great help too.
Let's check if you've added and used the correct template. It might be causing the packing list to display an invoice with a picture when printed.
To avoid printing a packing list with invoice details, I recommend reviewing the transactions you'd like to print. Then, make you have the correct template used.
Here's how:
I understand the importance of customizing the packing lists and directly using them when printing. I'd recommend sending a feature request directly to our Product Development team. This helps us improve your experience and the features of the program.
Here's how:
Additionally, I've included this article that'll give you a snapshot of your business. This way, you can ensure your record is accurate: Run Reports in QuickBooks Online

2023 and still no fix to this. QBO sucks and so does the customer service.
No one is listening and it's like I have to train the customer service person every time I ask a question.
What did you switch to? We just switched from desktop to QBO and it is absolutely horrible.
I just spent almost 30 minutes reading thru this thread thinking there would be a solution by now...... wow! I need to add SKU to the packing slip. I also need a backorder option. Customers will order 10 of an item but I'm only shipping 5 and therefore, I need to have the option of showing they ordered 10, shipping 5, backorder 5. Then there needs to be some type of report that I can pull when I receive products in that will show all orders that have that item on backorder. When I receive in product from a manufacturer, I go look at that product and it tells me how many are on PO, but it does not tell me how many are on backorder for customers. How can I see what all estimates include a particular product SKU? Besides digging through my massive file of backorders and looking for an item, there is nothing in the ocean of reports on QBO that allows me to see anything other than PO quantities! So here's a simplified bulleted list:
- SKU on packing slip
- Packing slip columns for Qty Ordered/Shipped/Backordered (all separate columns)
- Bookmark ability to jump to Packing Slip and just enter the estimate # to print it
- Backorder Report for all estimates to a specific product
- Ability to receive product in when I do not have an invoice to process a Bill without having to just manually adjust quantities so when a product is received, it will create a link to pull in the backorder report because manually adjusting the quantity and then invoicing when I do get that from the manufacturer, would double up on the product in stock quantity.
- Ability to be able to create my own forms and templates in QBO. I need this all to be in sync as I do not have time to go back and forth between 10 different apps to be able to keep track of everything!
Thanks! @quickbooks
Hi there, Debi_J_T.
I understand the importance of personalizing packing slips to add necessary information and generating reports according to your needs. You'll want to submit a request to have them developed in the program.
You can communicate with our product developers by following the steps below. Rest assured that they will review and consider it for future updates depending on the number of users' requests.

Good luck with that request! If you look back through this post, we have been looking for solutions for this problem for YEARS... haven't had a resolution yet. Don't hold your breath. (and yes, I am being sarcastic, but nice to meet another Debi
Breath not being held...... just had to put in my 2 cents
The lack of an adequate response to this is shocking. I can still customize my invoices, but the packing slip feature is incomplete and not customizable. It is 2023 and still no fix. Intuit is deaf to this and any other issues. Very bad customer service.
