How do I assign bin location to an item in QB Desktop Enterprise?

I'm just trying to understand how Bin Locations in Advanced Inventory Settings works. I have MAIN WHSE as my Inventory Site and in there, I added BIN A.

I have 5000 items, all of them have no bin location. Let's say those items are located in BIN A in the warehouse, Don't I need to assign each of them to BIN A?

or am I doing this all wrong? Thanks for any help.

How do I assign bin location to an item in QB Desktop Enterprise?

Hello there, @JerYPC and @CARLA47!

You're on the right track, you can assign a bin location to an item by transferring them.

First off, let's turn on the Row, Shelf, or Bin preference so you can add a new bin location to an existing site or location. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to Edit.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Choose Items & Inventory.
  4. Under Company Preferences, click Advanced Inventory Settings
  5. On the Multiple Inventory Locations preference, check the box beside Track bin Locations within Inventory Sites (row, shelf, or bin).
  6. Click OK twice.

Once done, here's how you can create a new bin location:

  1. Go to List.
  2. Select Inventory Site List.
  3. Under Inventory Site, select New.
  4. Enter the name of the location for your inventory items.
  5. Turn on the radio button for is a bin within site.
  6. Type in the name of your new bin location.
  7. Click OK twice.

From here, you can now go ahead and transfer your inventory items:

  1. Go to Inventory.
  2. Select Transfer Inventory.
  3. Fill in all the information needed such as the DateReference No.ClassTransfer From, and To
  4. Note: You need to select the same site in the Transfer From and to fields since you are about to specify a bin location for your inventory items.
  5. Choose all the inventory items you need to transfer.
  6. Enter the transfer details as appropriate.
  7. Select Save & Close.

In addition, here's an article you can read to learn more about your bin location management: Multiple Inventory Sites.

Lastly, I've got you this helpful article for ideas about the other ways you can utilize for your inventory management: Set up and use the Warehouse Manager App.

How do I assign bin location to an item in QB Desktop Enterprise?

I have 248 inventory bin locations to enter. Is there a way to import this list?

Thanks for posting here in the Community, @NicoleBajjsvc.

I’d like to share some information about importing files. I know how important it is to add these features to QuickBooks Desktop.

I noticed that the inventory bin locations aren’t included in the list of items that can be imported into QBDT. As a workaround, you can manually enter the bin locations into the system.

I will also include this article to help you learn how to import or export information with QuickBooks Desktop: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you need further assistance with importing files in QuickBooks Desktop, let me know by posting a comment below. I'll always be around.

Transaction Pro  allows you to import inventory adjustments in bulk. You can then set your spreadsheet to adjust the inventory out of the old bin using a negative quantity and then import the new quantity into the correct bin. It even allows you to import your bin locations if you haven’t already. Awesome tool and a huge time saver
