how to add tags to vendor bills

how to add tags to vendor bills. sorry, just asked this under the REPORTS topic and i couldn't find a way back to add more info.

the tag field only appears on the deposit screen. hoping to tag vendor bills and expenses.

also, and i think i already know the answer to this, there is no way to tag one item in a split transaction, correct?

Hi there, @newyorktutor. I've got the steps to add tags to your vendor bills and expenses. 

The tags are a useful feature that enables you to label your transactions for easy tracking. By assigning tags to your invoices, expenses, and bills, you can quickly and easily sort and filter them based on specific criteria. 
Let me guide you on how to make use of it.

 

First, let's create a tag: 

 

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Tags.
  2. Click New, then choose Tag
  3. In the Tag name section, type in your preferred name tag. 
  4. Hit Save

     


To add a tag to the vendor bills and expenses:

 

  1. Go to +New, then select Bill or Expenses. (If you want to create a Bill, then click Bill. If you wish to make expenses, select Expenses. 
  2. From the Vendor dropdown, choose your preferred vendor. 
  3. Click the Tags column, then choose a tag.
  4. Complete all necessary fields, then click Save and close

On the other hand, adding a tag to one item in a split transaction is unavailable in QuickBooks Online. As a workaround, you can use the class feature to track specific line items. 


Moreover, you can group your products and services into distinct categories or sub-categories, which is valuable for obtaining comprehensive insights into your sales and inventory when generating reports.

Thanks Shymae. I have created the tags and tag group but the field does not appear on the expenses or bills screen. Only on the deposit window. Weird, right?

I already use classes and was hoping to split out some transactions more specifically. I understand now that it is not possible.

how to add tags to vendor bills

I had to check TAGS in the gear icon in upper right to have them appear in bills and expenses.
