Good Day All,
Hoping to get some help or direction with an issue i'm having using the search Tool. Please note, i have a slightly older version of Desktop Pro 2017 so i'm hoping that's not going to be an issue.
What i'm trying to do is search ALL of my invoices over the years for keywords within my invoices using the "Project Description" field. There isn't any option to select or choose what areas of the invoice I want to search. When i click the search/find option, under Advanced, it only brings up preset Filters to search. These include: Accounting, Aging, Amount, Billing Status, Class, Cleared, ..
Can someone with some experience help, it would save me a ton of time of having to manually go through old invoices looking for specific words within each invoice. Much appreciated.
Hi there, readysetprint.
Let me provide you other options searching for your transactions in QuickBooks.
You can search the transaction using the simple tab instead of the advance tab. Let me provide you the steps:

i appreciate the reply but that didnt answer my question at all. That just brought up the default simple search.
I'm trying to search WITHIN the "project description" Field of all my invoices. When we create an invoice, we put details in that area and would like to search and locate those specific 'words' in invoices that contain those key words WITHIN the "Project Description" field.
Hey there, readysetprint.
Thanks for following up here in the Community. I'm here to provide some additional info about searching in QuickBooks Desktop.
Currently, the steps provided above by AbegailS_ are the only way to search for transactions within the system. I think you're onto something and agree it would be beneficial to have a Project Description search option as well. I'll do my part and pass your suggestion along to the Product Development Team for review. The majority of product updates and feature releases come directly from great suggestions like yours. You can keep any eye out for these types of updates by viewing the QuickBooks Blog.
Please don't hesitate to reach back out if you have any other questions or concerns. I'll be here to help.
readysetprint, a lot of answers on here are scripted or just generic. There absolutely is a way and if you still need the answer just let me know. I don't work for Intuit but have been using QB's desktop for the last 20 years. Just let me know which version you have. I have different older versions and the methods are slightly different but I use the exact feature all the times in both of my older versions.

AbegailS_ is either a bot or drunk. 0% help in answering the question. Either she needs to be fired or your developers do. Pathetic.
Did readysetsprint ask you for your insight? If not, I would be super interested. I am unsure why QBs doesn't allow searches of all of its fields (although we can search most of them, so I maybe shouldn't complain) so I'm always interested in good search tips and workarounds.
I have Quickbooks Desktop 2022 and am needing to use this feature. Can you please provide instruction?
Thank you!
Hi, nightwatchjess.
Thank you for joining the Community. Allow me to help share some insights about searching for an Invoice by Project Description.
Currently, the option to search an invoice using a Job Description is unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). However, you can search it using an invoice number.
Here's how:
I'll make sure to pass your idea to our Product Development team to see if this feature will be available for future updates. You can also send your product suggestions.
This way, we'll be able to know what product features or options we need to add in future updates. To send your feedback, please go to the Help menu, choose to Send Feedback Online, then click Product Suggestion.
I've also shared these articles on how to create and receive the invoice payment:
Stay in touch if you have any other questions about managing invoices in QuickBooks Desktop. I'll be happy to help you out. Take care.
I'm using QB Desktop Pro Plus 2022 and I would love to know how to search in the Project Description field for specific words. Appreciate any tips you can pass along. Thank you.
Hi gsmith2471, Can you please help me with this issue? I'm using Premier Edition 2020. See attached for a sample of my invoice. The area circled in red, Job Address, is the field I need to be able to search. Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.
Hi gsmith2471, can you please help me figure out how to search in a custom field? Please see attached for a sample of my invoice. Circled in red, Job Address, is the field that I need to be able to search. Any advise that you can share would be greatly appreciated.
Such an utterly useless response. Did you even bother reading the question? One might expect staff at quickbooks to provide more precise answers. Could get more intelligent comments from Yahoo questions.
