i like the feature to link purchase orders to sales orders. is it possible to link previous purchase orders to sales order that were created prior to this new feature?

QuickBooks Enterprise 24.0 release R9 now allows you to connect sales orders to purchase orders, making it easier to fulfill customer orders quickly and keep track of purchased products more effectively. Based on your verbatim, it seems you're looking to link a previous purchase order to a sales order. However, it's not possible to link a purchase order to a sales order directly, as you need to create the sales order first and then link it to the purchase order.

I would also love to see the feature expanded to allow for new sales orders to be linked to existing purchase orders.  We order most material in bulk for stock, but sometimes we run out.  Linking a new order to a purchase order that already exists would certainly streamline the ability to monitor when product will be available for fulfillment for specific orders, and allow us to keep a closer eye on whether we have enough material coming. We don't fulfill the order until we can fill it complete, so I'm unable to monitor backorders via the invoicing channel.  Being able to monitor backorders from the sales order stage and link those orders to existing purchase orders allows far more transparency when we may have 10+ sales orders all waiting on the same purchase order to arrive.

I can certainly understand how an ability to link new orders to already existing purchase orders could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.

You can also submit your own feature requests while using QuickBooks.

Here's how:
 

1. In the top menu bar, go to Help, then Send Feedback Online.
2. Choose Product Suggestion.
3. Enter your feedback or feature request.
4. Select Send Feedback.

I am familiar with how the current process for linking sales orders to purchase orders works, we were thrilled to see that function added.  Previously we'd been utilizing memo lines, but it required quite a bit more searching.  This is much simpler!
