I have been using the QB app for some time to upload my attachments for vendor invoices. It has suddenly stopped working. There are documents in the app but QB says there are none. How do I resolve this issue? I have made sure that there are no updates for the app on my Apple Phone. Thanks
Hi @MotesM,
Thank you for choosing QuickBooks as your accounting software. I'm here to help you fix the issue with the attachments in the QuickBooks app.
Unusual behaviors happen in the mobile app because of the stored cache or damaged QuickBooks files. You can perform some basic troubleshooting to isolate and fix the issue.
Since you've already made sure the app is up to date, I recommend you proceed with uninstalling and reinstalling the app. This way, the stored cache is cleared, and files get re-downloaded.
Here's how to delete an app:
Once done, you can download our app again from the App Store. Please follow the instructions found on this link: How to download the QuickBooks Online mobile app.
After following the steps above, you should be able to get back on track with uploading attachments. It should work as it used to when navigating the app.
Also, did you know you can access QuickBooks via the mobile browser? For more information about how to get the best results, check out this article: QuickBooks Online access for mobile devices.
Please know I'm just a post away if you have other questions related to the mobile app. I'm always ready to lend a hand. Take care.
I am not sure who thought this was a good idea and IF they actually surveyed the users of Quickbooks Desktop, but this makes things WAY more time-consuming than it needs to be! This would be great for personal use, but on a business level, this makes NO sense! Wrong move, Intuit!
I was also caught unaware by the scan Manager discontinuation when I upgraded to QBDT Premier Plus 2022.
I use this feature all the time. I am a contractor, but used to work in software for manufacturing. 1st rule, never take away a feature. My company that I worked for in the 90s was offering this to our clients then!
I am just guessing here, but either the provider of the scan software is either no longer offering and/or supporting it, or they wanted more that QB was willing to pay.
I do a lot of importing of PDF documents and also print to PDF in windows using Microsoft Print to PDF.
I have set up a folder system under my QBPdocs/Attach folder to save or print or scan pdf files to.
The trick was finding a scan software that was affordable and minimized the pain.
I found a freeware program called NAPS2 that fulfilled my needs. It can perform most of the tasks most scan software can provide and configured to auto save and name files. You can configure each users copy to save to a file path with a file name and date time detail and auto increment count suffix. It works perfectly with my Epson GT-S50 scanner.
It doesn't save to the ATTACHMENTS record in QB, but by clicking on COMPUTER in the ATTACHMENTS screen you have access to the directory you have scanned to and can select the scanned file. I do a descending sort by Date Modified and the last file scanned is always at the top.
Not a perfect solution, but someone smarter that me could probably make an integration in to QB (maybe even Intuit!)
TOTALLY pathetic response for a feature that is MANDATORY in today's business environment. FIX IT!!!!!!!!!!
I know what you are saying and have done similar as a workaround, but it still is extra steps if I have a paper version of the invoice. Instead of scanning straight into QB, now you have to open another program, scan through whatever option, save it to a folder, go back to QB and attach it from the computer. I personally don't want extra steps. I work in the medical field, and electronic medical records have enough unnecessary extra steps to drive anyone crazy!
Not being able to scan will be a hardship. We rely on this feature to be able to provide a complete history of each customer with the current and past contracts. This is one of the worst upgrades of QuickBooks. This will cause hours of additional work. remote work will be impossible. Why did the sales person tell me the upgrade could do everything my current version could do when it does not?
Unbelievable that the cost of this product keeps going up and features are either being removed or broken. We're an MSP and work hard at keeping business networks and apps secure, how on EARTH is having an employee use a personal cell phone to take pictures of company documents so that they can be attached to QB in ANY WAY secure?? Agree with others in this thread that FEEDBACK is ignored. The only thing that seems to work consistently is the POP UP ads for Timesheets, upgrades, and prompting employees/users to make a backup of the database. Why would I want an employee to have to ability to back up my company database? QB needs to take a step back and review their pricing, features & functionality.
THERE HAS TO BE A WAY TO PUT SCANNING BACK INTO QUICKBOOK? HAS ANYONE FIGURED IT OUT YET?
No, they did not bring back scanning.
Not sure if everyone realizes is that Nuance Software which was the software behind the scanning into Quickbooks sold their scanner business elsewhere and that's why its no longer in Quickbooks.
Now why a software giant like Intuit can't find another scanning company to partner with is beyond me.
Intuit is very obstinate about bringing the scan manager to the newer version of QB (2022, 2023). I am ignoring all their hype about the newer version of QB and will stick with QB 2021.
What you are trying to sell is nonsense. How can I scan 5-10 pages with my mobile device? Please bring the scan manager back to your newer version of QB.
That's what I'm doing, not upgrading. They took away loan manager as well, which was something I rely on heavily in our business.
However, you know they eventually 'discontinue' support for older versions...so eventually it's either submit to the changes or look elsewhere for your accounting software.
Thanks for the information on Nuance. I did a little looking around to find that Microsoft purchased Nuance in March 2022. So I wonder if that transaction had something to do with Intuit not being able to come to terms with Nuance in time for the 2022 release of QB? Microsoft has competing financial accounting software (MS Dynamics) which, come to think about it, may have a great scanning feature built in?
You are making a smart decision from my perspective. I disliked Intuit's decison to remove Scan Manager so much that our company is moving to SAP which we avoided as long as we could. Even if Intuit brought back Scan Manager with their next release the damage was done and I don't trust them to do what is best for their customers in the future. I think if I were a QB Enterprise user today I would look at a Microsoft Dynamics product. Note that Microsoft bought Nuance in March of 2022, the maker of the software that powered Scan Manager in QB (as I understand it).
Discontinuing Scan Manager has been a nightmare for me and obviously many QB users. Do you not hear us or are you just ignoring us because the cost savings of not providing us with scanning on our PC is too great? Since you took away our ability to scan a document and you no longer have a scanning company to provide the services we pay for, then all of your customers should be receiving a credit for the past two years. I think most of us just want the ability to scan. I think we are owed an explanation from the CEO.
No one from Intuit or QuickBooks team wants to comment on why the Scan Manager was discontinued after Enterprise 2021. Looks like they are quiet because of their wrong decision.
Corporate obfuscation
Hi there, @clutterbug.
I can see how difficult it is. The Scan Manager feature was discontinued in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). It was replaced with Attach Documents. For more information about this, please read this article: Features discontinued in QuickBooks Desktop 2022 and Enterprise 22.
I've also added this helpful resource that you can check to keep track of the product updates of QuickBooks: Product Updates.
Please don't hesitate to post again here if you have any other QuickBooks concerns. I'm always here ready to help. Have a good one and take care always.
Annnddd they missed the mark again with that reply! Did you not read all the other responses @DivinaMercy_N ? We KNOW about the attach feature, but the point is QB made their product WAY less user-friendly and more cumbersome by asking its users to do EXTRA steps in order to use their product. I know it is great to think that all communication comes in electronic format, but that isn't the case. And if we are using the DESKTOP version of a product, why would we want to involve our mobile phone in this??? That is quite the assumption that as an employee of a business you can just snap away pics of business documents.
Hi Divinia,
I am painfully aware that its been discontinued. Have you read any of the posts from your end users and collated them and sent them to your higher ups in the company. Its led to a lot of frustration and people leaving QB behind in the dust for other accounting software that doesn't take features away.
Attach doesn't work. The replacement totally stinks. I'm not letting an employee use a personal cell phone to take photos of work documents, and neither am I going to the expense of buying an employee a company paid cell phone so that they can do so. This was a poor decision - not yours of course, I'm not blaming you. But instead of your response to me, you should read what others are saying, collate them and send the complaints up the food chain.
People reading this should know about a company calls Sourcelink, which connects to QB and you can scan directly into QB.
https://personable.com/sourcelink/
It is what I used before QB incorporated Scan Manager...
Again, a ridiculous answer that does not actually answer anything?
Why is your answer again the same crap that all other Intuit employees have been answering? Just pointing us to the completely incompetent way of "scanning"?
Why don't you tell us if you are taking this issue up with your upper management or with the developers team? None of us has any idea if they are even aware of this huge problem. I have submitted feedback regarding the essential function of the scan manager but I have absolutely no idea if anyone has read all of our feedback.
It is so completely frustrating that we have to look for another software that will meet our needs. I know that support will end for v2021 some time this year.
If anyone finds a good solution, please post!
I am not Intuit employee!! Just upset that Intuit deleted the scanner interface. I will stay with Enterprise 2021 which does have a scanner interface.
Welcome to the discussion Divina_N, on the case of the attachment either QB is out of touch with the reality on how the attachment is used or don't care about our needs, either way Intuit is not resolving our issue. I follow your links and notice the attachment is done via a picture take from a phone, is this an employee phone?, is that how Intuit attach documents to their records?, you as Intuit employee, how many pictures of Intuit records you have in your phone or had you take using your phone? Where is the privacy for a business that way?, Or we are suppose to buy a phone for each employees, or have one at the corner of the office and everyone goes there with their documents to take a picture and attach it to QB, or have someone walking around the office asking who need to attach a document?
You got the "picture"? Is just not working for us.
Not sure what is the reason behind the removal of the scanner, but I don't think is a technical one, Intuit make software.
