Is anyone bothered at all by the discontinuation of scan manager in QB 2022 Desktop? See attached image.

Let me share some updates with you, @ICGTtreasurer.
I'm sad to inform you that the Scan Manager feature was discontinued in QuickBooks Desktop 2022, and it was replaced with Attach Documents. However, it can still be used in previous, currently supported versions.
If you have the latest version, you can now use the QuickBooks Desktop mobile app, upload your documents to the system using your mobile device. You can then add them to your invoices, purchase orders, or other transactions.
Know that QBDT currently supports PDFs and images with JPEG, JPG, GIF, or PNG format. To utilize this feature, you'll need to download the QuickBooks Desktop app.
Please refer to these links below on how to download them based on your device:
Once done, you can now start capturing and uploading the documents. If you're using the Android version, here's how you can do that:
If you're using the iOS version, please see the steps on the link attached: Attach documents to transactions in QuickBooks Desktop using mobile. It also contains steps on how to view and attach documents in QuickBooks Desktop.

I use Scan manager constantly. It is automatic and requires a minimal amount of time. I literally attach hundreds of documents weekly to transactions, all using scan manager. I cannot upgrade to any new versions of QB desktop until I can carve out the time to scan documents and manually attach them. I am not sure if you are aware of the manual process but it takes twice as long, if not longer, to do. I am not sure where that time will come from. Every scan will now have to be named so that I know where to attach it and then, it goes in a folder on the computer and dragged into the doc center. After that I have to navigate there or to the computer and manually attach it. Finally, I have to go to the original scanned document folder and delete the documents because at this point they are detritus. This is way too much work. Why did they eliminate such a powerful tool. It is literally insane. I need that automation put back where it belongs!
Totally disgusted with the discontinuation of scan manager. How could they even call this an upgrade to 2022?
And they say it's still available in previsions versions. Well what is the point of using 2022? I literally scan hundreds of docs on a monthly basis, so using a phone app is counter-productive for me. Simply bring back the scan tool.
Why would we want to use our phone to attach documents - i'm sitting at my desk with a fast scanner and can scan multi page, 2 sided documents quickly. This is a huge inconvenience.
I can't believe they did this. This is fine for a person that wants to take a picture of a grocery store receipt. If you are working as an accountant this is very unacceptable. I just printed out over 120 pp that need to be scanned into customer accounts. I don't know what I am going to do. I was able to put 20 pp in a document feeder and scan into quickbooks. I can't believe they eliminated this in Enterprise - obviously anyone that uses that particular software has a corporate account. I will be looking for other options than Intuit and I will make sure my colleagues are aware of this. Intuit is not going to get new customers by doing this.
This is crazy. For anyone scanning multiple pages into Quickbooks it is going to take 2-3 times the time with the new app system. You have gone backwards with your upgrade. Bring back scan manager.
I have been using quickbooks since 2009 and I have always liked their products. I especially liked when the added the attached documents and scan manager years ago and I have been using it ever since. I recently went though the process of upgrading my quickbooks Enterprise to 2022 and discovered that they had removed the Scan Manager feature and replaced it with a worthless mobile app. This is absolutely infuriating that they would make a product worse. We use scan manager on almost every transaction as we scan every PO, Item Receipt, Bill, customer forms, deposits, checks, etc... We have a scanner at every station and use them exclusively for quickbooks. It they do not add scan manager to the latest version I will DEFINITELY NOT be upgrading to any new version until this is corrected. I can see adding the option for the mobile app which is great for scanning a credit card receipt in the field, but to use that for desktop needs is absolutely ridiculous. The fact that both options are available in 2021 but not 2022 makes no sense. I honestly don't understand how companies make their products worse over time rather than better. This is a huge dissapointment.
I am a longtime user of Quickbooks and have had the software since 2008. Over the years they have always made great improvements to the software. One of the best improvements was the addition of attached documents and the scan manager. We use this process on almost every transaction and we have scanners at every workstation exclusively for Quickbooks. This is the first time that I have seen quickbooks go backwards in innovation. I think the mobile scanning is a neat addition for scanning credit card receipts in the field but it is absolutely not useful for high use at the desktop. It should be another option for attaching documents but in no way replace the extremely useful and necessary scan manager option. If this is the case I will NEVER be upgrading past 2021 and if they stop supporting it I will have no choice but to find another accounting software to purchase. I am sorry to say this but I am extremely Disappointed with Intuit at this time.
Agreed! Had I realized Scan Manager had been discontinued I would not have upgraded. This has caused much inefficiency in our process of attaching pdf copies of our vendor invoices to the QB record. How did I miss this?
Yes. It is very bad for me. I have remote employees whose entire function was scanning in original docs and pics to selected docs. It is very cumbersome now. Very very aggravating.
I couldn't agree with you more. We have scanners at every workstation and we scan almost everything into our system and it is one of the reasons why we like quickbooks so much. Doing away with this extremely important tool does not make any sense to me at all. The mobile app is great for fuel or grocery slips in the field but to use in a desktop situation takes three times as long and the documents are not as good by any stretch of the imagination. I will NEVER upgrade to 2022 if they do not correct it!
My suggestion to everybody is to keep giving this product feedback to Quickbooks through the Help tab in Quickbooks. Go to Help > Send Feedback Online > Product Suggestions. I have been doing it every single day sometimes several times a day. I have been told that their product engineers have to read all of them and if enough of us complain they will hopefully listen and correct it.
Absolutely!!!! We somehow missed that announcement as well, or we would have NEVER upgraded. Their new Mobile method is a complete waste of my time and inefficient to say the least
This is a HORRIBLE "UPGRADE". We scan hundreds of documents a month into quickbooks and the amount of extra time it now takes adds up rather quickly when scanning this much! I am not sure how anyone could classify a loss of a feature as an upgrade. While the mobile scan option is a nice feature for individuals who may work from a vehicle or on the go often, most people are set up either remote or in an office and have a scanner and scan manager is still the best option for them since the additional steps are not needed. While we have been using quickbooks for over 20 years, it may be time to find another software program.
Quickbooks 2022 sucks why would they remove ScanManager and LoanManager, what the hell are they thinking. I am uninstalling Quickbooks Pro 2022. This might be the end for me using QuickBooks when they stop supporting 2021... Intuit has truly lost their minds.
I am very disappointed that QB 2022 has discontinued scan manager. Because of this it adds a couple of additional steps to scanning receipts and documents and attaching them to QB. I don't understand their reasoning.
Getting rid of this feature has caused an absolute headache and is taking 3 times as long to get my documents scanned in. Attempted to use the app and upload my documents like suggested, but that also is inefficient. I am already on my computer, why should I have to take out my phone - hold everything steady to take a clear picture, upload in the app, THEN go to quickbooks to select the document. RIDICULOUS! Bring back scan manager!! Taking this away is making everyone's jobs way more difficult than they need to be.
I recently moved from Quickbooks Premier 2019 Desktop to Quickbooks Premier "Plus" 2022 for Desktop. After installing the "upgrade", I noticed that the scan manager has been removed. This is a vital feature in our day to day operations. We use for every single transaction posted to Quickbooks. The new method of attaching documents is wildly inefficient. Please bring back the scan manager as soon as possible, as this is costing users time and money. It really makes no sense to move in reverse. What exactly are we paying for in "Plus", when features that we've built processes around are being made to be inefficient. Thanks a lot, Intuit!
The new mobile method of scanning and uploading receipts and invoices is a complete joke. Even when you scan an invoice from a quickbooks program....
- Can't recognize the vendor
- Gets every due date wrong
- Doesn't support PO numbers
- NEVER finds a document match
- Multiple page invoices? Forget it.
People, they will NEVER bring back Scan Manager. Intuit is skating along and putting all their development resources into the online versions. As was said before, does anyone at Intuit beta test these "features" with real world customers? Why don't they inform people that they are taking away a function?
Ridiculous.
This is the worst! I also scan hundreds of documents to attached to every invoice I send out. QB needs to rethink this change.
Way to throw us back to the stone age Quickbooks!! Have you ever heard of paperless workplaces?
Why would you discontinue this? Are we now supposed to buy all of our employees a
work cell phone ? Employees do not want to use there personal cell phones to scan for business
purposes and as an employer I DO NOT WANT THEM TO HAVE THIS INFORMATION. This is the
worst upgrade of all times! I'm sure many will be looking for a more modern and innovative
software, I know I will.......
If the feature is critical to your business, consider sticking with QBD 2021 until QBD 2023 is released.
I haven’t upgraded yet as a result of the removal of scan manager. Do you know for a fact they are bringing it back?
Do you know for a fact that scan manager will be back in 2023? That would be fantastic news.
