Rule feature that scans text in receipt image

My business has receipts from multiple projects from Home Depot and Lowes. Each receipt has a project code on it, for example MARI2023 which has the first four characters of the street with the year the property was purchased. I scan each receipt after the purchase. So each receipt project code is always unique and will never conflict with a product. QB matches the receipts and the image menu has the option to see the text in the image, but the Rule feature does not have the functionality to scan the receipt for a code to allow me to properly record the transaction for that property automatically without looking at the receipt manually. The rule would be IF receipt contains MARI2023, then categorize it as X. Is this in the plans for a feature? This would be a huge time saver.

Rule feature that scans text in receipt image

Hello there, Mark. You can manually review your receipts, categorize them, and apply the appropriate categorization based on your project codes.

The feature to scan and upload receipts is designed to automatically extract info from it and create a transaction for you to review. Once generated, you can edit it, add it to an account, or match it to an existing transaction in the Receipts tab.

QuickBooks Online doesn't have a built-in feature to categorize receipts automatically based on custom rules. That said, I recommend submitting feedback to our product engineers. Our team will thoroughly review your ideas.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then choose Feedback.
  2. Type in your valuable suggestions or recommendations.
  3. Hit Next to submit.

You can track your recommendations through our QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

Expressing your need for automated categorization of receipts based on unique project codes may influence future enhancements. Your input can contribute to shaping the program's future capabilities. Let me know if you need any help. I got you, Mark!
