941 Interview Questions

I started the process to fill out our Qtly Fed Tax Return for payroll 941 Schedule B form today, for 2022 1st quarter. It started with 'Interview Questions'. Under "Answer all that apply to you" it asks you to "check here if you are an exempt organization or government entity". We are a 501(c)(3) church. We do pay payroll taxes. IRS Publication 15 states that "certain" exempt organizations qualify for... How do we know if we fall into that "certain" category?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

We are using QB Desktop Premier Edition 2021 in United States.

I'm here to help select the Exempt Organization for your Non-Profit QuickBooks company file.

Before we proceed, you'll want to verify by contacting the IRS if your company falls under a non-profit organization. They can provide certain instructions to ensure that you're filing the correct form.

Going back, In QuickBooks Desktop, the Exempt Organization option is available for a non-profit organization. All you need to do is select from the Income Tax Formed Used section the Form 990 Exempt Organization type on your company file.

To do this, please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Company menu and select My Company.
  2. Click the Pencil icon and press Report Information.
  3. Tap the Income Tax Form Used and select the correct filing form.
  4. Select OK to save it.

You may want to check out these articles so you'll be guided about QuickBooks: Get started with QuickBooks Desktop and create a company file. It includes setting up and adding your company information.

Additionally, make sure to update your QuickBooks Desktop so the file has the latest features and fixes. Then, update your payroll tax table to stay compliant with paycheck calculations.

And, here's how you can prepare and file Form 941 Schedule B in QuickBooks Desktop.

Keep me posted if you have follow-up questions about your Schedule B form, and I'm happy to help you.

941 Interview Questions

Thanks, Mary.

We are definitely a 501c3 in the eyes of the IRS, but do not file a 990 because we're a small church.

We are on automatic updates with QB,and the link you referred me to regarding setting up do not talk about the specifics of exempt nonprofits.

I already know how to fill out the 941, which I've been doing for years, I was just asking about your INTERVIEW questions from QB that come up as the first page of the 941.

But I think you answered my question that we should check that box that I asked about.

Thanks!
