ADP payroll taxes

I have a client that uses ADP for their payroll.  ADP withdrawals the total amount for each payroll's taxes as one withdrawal.  This amount includes payroll liability and  company payroll tax expense.  For example, their bank register looks like this:

ADP Payroll - $xxxx.xx (net payroll amount deducted from bank account)

ADP Payroll Taxes - $xxxx.xx (includes all tax liability and expense from payroll)

How do I enter this withdrawal for the payroll taxes?

The client doesn't pay any of their payroll taxes. ADP pays all of them out of the money they pull for each pay period.  It shouldn't be a payroll expense, because a large amount is actually a payroll liability.

They also have health insurance, Simple IRA's, and Child Support withheld from some of the paychecks that the company does pay.  This amount is NOT included in the payroll tax deduction.

Thank you!

ADP payroll taxes

I have another way on how you can do this rather than entering the transactions as an expense, jhammen64.

You can record it as a journal entry so you can adjust or correct transactions and post entries that cannot be performed in other ways.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Company menu and select Make General Journal Entries.
  2. Fill out the fields to create your journal entry. Make sure your debits equal your credits when you’re done.
  3. Click Save or Save & Close.

Please check this article for detailed steps: Create A Journal Entry In QuickBooks Desktop.

However, I still recommend reaching out to an accountant for other ways on how to do the recording.

You'll want to run and view the Transaction Journal report in QuickBooks. This shows debits and credits for each transaction and provides a more focused view of amounts and accounts not visible from the transaction itself.

Keep me posted on the process with your payroll. I'll always be here if you need further assistance.
