Can I allocate owner's direct labor at the project level without the owner being on payroll?

I want to capture his labor cost to measure profitability but he isn't actually getting paid.

Can I allocate owner's direct labor at the project level without the owner being on payroll?

Hello there, userl-johnson.

Yes, you can capture his labor cost and measure profitability without getting paid.

In QuickBooks Online, you can use the Project feature. It is a tool for tracking the specific costs of labor, materials, and overhead related to individual jobs. Note: This is applicable in QuickBooks Online Plus, Advanced, and Accountant.

First, turn on this feature in the settings:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Account and Settings
  3. Choose Advanced.
  4. Select the pencil in the Project field to edit the setting to ON.
  5. Click the green Save button to make the change to your settings and activate Projects.
  6. Then, Done.

Here's how to create a project:

  1. Go to Project on the left panel.
  2. Select New Project.
  3. In the Project Name field, enter the project name.
  4. Select the project customer from the Customer drop-down menu.
  5. Add any notes or details about the project in Notes.
  6. Once ready, hit Save.

Can I allocate owner's direct labor at the project level without the owner being on payroll?

I want to know this, too.  The answer provided told how to turn on projects and start a project, but didn't answer the question.  How do I allocate the owner's direct labor to a project without the owner being paid???????
