Does anyone else think QuickBooks is terrible?

I agree. I have been a QB user for MANY years, and I have NEVER found QB help to be useful and have, in virtually every instance, had to resort to a 3rd party to find answers.  As QB Support has terminated for my version, I finally decided to migrate to the Online version.  I started yesterday, and I have worked 14 hours on this mess and cannot make ANY progress.  I signed up for the first training session I could find which is a week from today, but I cannot wait a week to do books.  I cannot even print a useable check and cannot find any help for adjusting the check format.  I am going to cancel this QB Online and limp along with my old, now unsupported version of QB until I find another service.  What a pile of junk....

It is absolutely pathetic.  The ugrades they did make no sense and took away many of the few good things in the older version.  And whats the deal with these "modern view" reports.  Just horrible.  It had a modicum of flow to it previously but they took that away also.  Zero stars and if I could be negative stars I would!!!!

YES THE ABSOLUTE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED

John King

Does anyone else think QuickBooks is terrible?

Yes, I changed over from Freshbooks 6 months ago as my accountant requested so it's easier for them to do my books. I hate it more than I can describe. I'll start here:

1. When you download a PDF copy of an invoice (as I need to for some clients to upload to their portal) it doesn't automatically save the file name as the invoice number so you have to manually type in the file name, otherwise it saves as some random file name that means noting. It's ridiculous, how hard is it to make the pdf file save as the number of the invoice?

2. You have no option to add multiple contacts to a "customer". Some of my clients have multiple project managers I do work for then I email them the invoices for their respective jobs, and now I have to manually type in their email addresses every time I send an invoice to anyone who is not the one and only default contact. It's a joke, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person in the world who sends invoices to companies with more than one manager on staff.

3. You can't just click on an existing invoice to view it. You have to click it once then click it again to see the details and even then you can only go to Edit Invoice mode which is a pain in the butt to read. How hard could it be to just be able to open an invoice to view it with one click?

4 .Entering a payment is convoluted AF. It's a two step process, and then you have to be Indiana Jones to go back and find the payment details for a particular invoice if you need to. It's convoluted, stupid and totally user unfriendly. What would be so hard about being able to open a paid invoice and see the payment details???

5. After importing all my historic data from Freshbooks, the clients with multiple contacts as mentioned above have been broken up so each contact is now a "Customer" so now I can't click on a client to look at all their invoices. I have no way to have a quick look at what they owe or details of a past job I might need. I have to remember who the project manager was and find them in the customer list. It's BS.

I'm a small business and don't have time to be messing around for an hour or more every time I need to do something. This is supposed to be the premier accounting software and it doesn't even do basic simple functions that should be a no brainer for an invoicing program. What a joke. It is like buying Photoshop and discovering it doesn't change the colors of a photo. My invoicing procedure has been totally ruined by this debacle of a program.

@John King

You may have 2 options

1. Find a new accountant and purchase a 3rd party service to convert your data back to FreshBooks.

2. Keep your accountant, use FreshBooks on your end and use a connector to mirror data to QBO.

Yes, I just moved to the online version and nothing is working. I want to talk to tech support but have no way to do this. QB now is completely unusable. Intuit sucks.

Hi there, tarbuckle.

Thanks for joining this conversation. Allow me to chime in and ensure this is taken care of for you.

May I know what issue you're getting when working with your QuickBooks Online (QBO)? Any additional information will help me provide the best resolution for your concern.

However, if you still wish to speak with our Support team, here's how to reach them:

  1. In QBO, click the Help (question mark) icon at the top right.
  2. Select a suggested option, or type a question or topic you need help with.
  3. Tick Contact Us and choose a way to connect with us.

To check for our Support hours, you can refer to this article: QuickBooks Online Support.

I also recommend visiting our website for more tips and other resources you can use in the future: Self-help articles.

Please know that I'm only a post away if you have more questions about this or anything else. I'll be here ready to assist. Keep safe.

I detest the changes that were recently made to QB. IT has doubled my work. How do we change it back???

I cannot understand the need to constantly change QB online. The changes are becoming more frequent and only cause more work on my end. I try to pay many subcontractors, with invoices and credit memos. This used to a simple task. Now I have to open each vendor and add each invoice and credit individually to a check..... one by one. This might be 20-30 invoices and credits per vendor.

I then mark that I need to print the check, moving it to another screen and proceed with the next vendor... voer and over again. What used to be 3-5 clicks is closer to 300-500 clicks.

NOT COOL!

PAYING VENDORS IS ONLY A SMALL PART OF MY WORK LOAD. You have made my very hectic job a complete nighmare. I am now taking work home to stay on top of the projects.

Please revert back to the version I was running just last week!

Thanks for getting involved with this thread, Lu2015.

I can certainly understand how a more streamlined process for paying vendors/printing checks could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.

You can also submit your own feature requests while signed in.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Gear icon, then go to Feedback.
  2. Enter your suggestion(s) in the Have feedback? window.
  3. If necessary, attach a file with your Camera icon.
  4. Select Next.

Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit. It will be reviewed by our Product Development team and considered in future updates. You can stay up-to-date with the latest news about your product by reviewing Intuit's Product Updates webpage.

I'll be here to help if there's any questions. Have an awesome day!

It would be nice if they would send some documentation out before they implement a change so we can see how it may affect us, rather then just logging in and find out the charges the hard way.

I agree 100%. Bless the hearts of the people (or bots) answering posts here because they only seem to want to point users back to Help which is useless. My most recent issue is not being able to print invoices from iPad app or iPhone app, and all of the support topics that I found on this issue have a running theme -- update QB app, drop and reinstall QB app, update phone, use computer to print invoice. And then still can't print invoices from mobile app. So frustrating!

I truly hate this product!

Yet again, I'm getting the message "your software will expire in 7 days".  Press renew, to see that IT EXPIRES IN JANUARY 2024!!!!!!!  I have contacted your support numerous times, synced my license numerous times yet THIS MESSAGE keeps coming back like a bad penny!  Now, if it is not fixed immediately, I will be locked out of my books again (they are held hostage!!!!).

What in gods name do I need to do to GET RID OF THIS ISSUE ONCE AND FOR ALL?????  Is there a specific person who is capable of solving this within your organization?  Everyone that has helped to date has fixed it for a month, and then back it comes.

I AM TIRED OF WASTING TIME ON THIS PROBLEM, AND WITH SUPPORT PEOPLE WHO CANNOT PERMANANTLY FIX IT!

DawnD12, I hear your sentiments and understand how important it is to permanently fix any errors so you may utilize QuickBooks successfully and efficiently. Please know that this isn't what we want you to encounter.

I appreciate your troubleshooting efforts, SawnD12. Since you've finished syncing your license, I recommend installing the latest update for your version of QuickBooks Desktop. This often fixes subscription errors and ensures you have the latest features and fixes.

If your QuickBooks Desktop software is up to date, and you still see a subscription error, you can run the QuickBooks Diagnostic Tool from the Tool Hub. Sometimes QuickBooks Desktop is unable to connect to our online services due to a corrupt Windows file. Please follow the steps below to download, install, and utilize the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub:

  1.  Close QuickBooks.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.6.0.3) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. To install and accept the terms and conditions, adhere to the on-screen instructions.
  5. Double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to launch the tool hub after the installation is complete.
  6. From the tool hub, run QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool to repair any Windows files needed to run QuickBooks.
  7. Select OK when the Diagnostic Tool completes.
  8. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

Lastly, restore your product and license file if you still have the same error. Refer to the steps in Solution 4: Restore your product and license file outlined in this help article: Fix subscription has lapsed error in QuickBooks Desktop.

Moreover, check out this article if you encounter issues with your company file moving forward: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Thank you for always coming back to the Community space, DawnD12. It's always our pleasure to assist you with any QuickBooks-related concerns. We're here to help you every single day, so don't be hesitant to stop by again. More success with your business!

Does anyone else think QuickBooks is terrible?

Thanks for your assistance.  I have a long history with this since last October. MANY support contacts, new computer with Windows 11, reinstall of quickbooks yet it keeps coming back. I'm quite resentful of the time that I have wasted on this, and the stress that it has caused by rendering my accounting inoperable for days.

At this point, I believe I need an engineer involved.

Does anyone else think QuickBooks is terrible?

I completely understand your frustration with the situation, DawnD12. I see that you called our Support Team several times to help you fix this issue. I appreciate your time and effort.

Yes, it may be time to involve an engineer too. However, still, I recommend reaching out to the QuickBooks support team once again to explain the entire history of the issue, including the steps you've taken so far.

If necessary, they'll create an investigation (INV) case to escalate the matter and prioritize it accordingly. This case will ensure that your issue receives the attention it deserves from the appropriate technical experts who can work toward finding a resolution. Go to Help and select QuickBooks Desktop Help F1. Alternatively, you can use this link: Contact Support.

I appreciate you giving QuickBooks support a chance to thoroughly investigate and address the underlying cause of the problem, which will hopefully lead to a more permanent fix. If there's anything else I can assist you with, please let me know. I'm here to help in any way I can.

Does anyone else think QuickBooks is terrible?

Thanks for reaching out.

I want to clarify that this message randomly pops up periodically, which if it were just a message, could be ignored, however, my concern is that the last time it escalated to the "expired" message (which popped up yesterday once), it rendered me inoperable for 5 business days.  We barely got payroll out on time, and invoicing, a/r and a/p were all shut down for a week.

Rather than me review this and answer the questions of yet another front-line support person, I've created a document with answers to all of the questions that they ask every time I call.  Is it possible for me to send this to someone, have them research the matter, and then call me when they have a course of action?

Thanks!

Does anyone else think QuickBooks is terrible?

My experience today:

  • 1st attempt: Contacted via chat regarding a problem with Journal entries not updating accounts (no tx or balance updates)...after about 15 minutes of Q&A the first guy said to get support from the tool I used to import the JEs, and then he immediately disconnected me from chat without verifying that was ok with me. I felt mistreated by the rep.
  • 2nd attempt: I tried manually entering the journals and again contacted via chat. The rep did a screen share and verified that the journals indeed not updating balances or registers for accounts in question. That rep disconnected me in the middle of the screen share.
  • Third attempt: Contact via chat again, and once I had verified myself and the guy checked my account for the problem, he disconnected me without a word.
  • Fourth attempt: Contacted via phone and used the callback option. When the phone rang, there was no-one there. Waited a few minutes for someone to show up, but no go.
  • Fifth attempt: Contacted via phone and waited for 21 minutes...when a person answered it was not the right person (even though I made all the selections to speak to a QB Online support rep), and she sent me to another queue where I waited another 5 minutes. The person I got at that point figured out my issue and seems to have resolved it.

Seems consistent that first line support people are trained to disconnect you if they cannot solve the problem (or they are so severely penalized for escalating calls that they just disconnect and say they solved the problem. No way to tell what is happening, but I am a paying customer and I am being treated EXTREMELY poorly. Agree with the person who said IRS is better.

It is the worst immaginable replacement for QB desktop.  After using QB for 30 years I would do anything to get all of my clients off of QB online.  QB DT was one of the best small accounting packages ever.  Now they have replaced it with a toy.
