Has Quickbooks figured out how to calculate the Paid Family Medical Leave mandated deduction on employee's cash tips they claim on their paycheck?

I can see the need to get this issue fixed promptly, @ylouise. That's why I'm here to share the updates about the calculation of Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) on your employee's cash tips. Also, I'll point you in the right direction to recalculate the missing deductions on their paychecks.

I've checked your profile and looked into your conversations with us. You're referring to the PFML tax in MA. With this, I've found the two related posts about your current concern. These are dated November 27 and December 4 of last year.

Yes, we calculate the tax based on the cash tips and MA PFML setup in the program. We'll auto-recalculate paychecks from October 1st of 2019 to the released date to catch up for missing taxes.

Also, it seems you've already performed the troubleshooting steps provided by us in the two threads. Thus, we'll need to securely access your account to investigate why the taxes aren't deducting from the paychecks. I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. They have the tools to help you recalculate the missing taxes. This way, we can ensure these will be reported accurately on the employees' W-2s and MA forms. Kindly review our support hours before getting in touch with them. I'll guide you how.

  1. Go to the Help menu at the upper right.
  2. Select Contact Us
  3. Enter PFML taxes aren't deducting on my employee's cash tips they claim on their paychecks in the What can we help you with? box.
  4. Click Let's talk
  5. Choose a way to connect with a support agent.

We always want to make sure we're compliant with the state rules and regulations. With this, I suggest visiting this website: MA Payroll Tax Compliance. Just go to the Paid Leave section under Tax Forms. Then, click View. It also has in-depth details about withholdings, unemployment, other taxes, e-file, pay, agency, and its employer registration.

Please know that you can count on me if there's anything else you need. Keep safe always, @ylouise.

No, this didn't work.  Last year I was on support for over 2 hours and they cannot help me!.  Now, When I press help and contact us it just circles round and round - .

They did NOT recalculate the taxes nor are they fixing the program so that cash tips are taxed for the paid family medical leave MANDATED STATE TAXES.  Quickbooks is committing fraud in that they are not advising customers that the customer will have to manually tax out the taxes.

I believe they cannot fix this issue.  Or don't want to unless enough people who realize that CASH TIPS ARE NOT TAXED ON THE PAID FAMILY MEDICAL LEAVE TAX IN MASSACHUSETTS.

We don't want you to feel this way, @ylouise.

I recognized the need to recalculate your taxes. I'd like to get this resolved right away. As my colleague suggested, It would be best to contact our Support team as they can securely check your account and assist you in recalculating your taxes.

Since you're unable to reach them, I recommend accessing your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private window. Piled up cache causes unusual behavior to your browser that can affect your QBO performance. Using a private window helps us determined a browser-related issue. You can use these keyboard shortcuts in opening a private window:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

Once in a private window, kindly follow the steps provided by my colleague RaymondJayO on how to get in touch with them. If you're able to contact them, then we'll need to clear your browser's cacheThis will delete all the stored data and prevent unusual behavior to the browser.

If the issue persists, I suggest using other browsers. This is also to check if this is a browser-related issue.

Additionally, you can also check our Employees and payroll taxes page for your reference. Here, you can read some of our great articles that can guide you in managing your payroll taxes smoothly.

Let me know if there's anything else you need help with. I'm always here ready to assist you anytime. Take care.
