Hi there, @christian-antley.
Thanks for taking the time to reach out to the Community for support.
Please know that the QuickBooks Self- Employed (QBSE) version is designed for freelancers, independent contractors, and service-based entrepreneurs. The option to file for Annual Partnership Tax Return is unavailable at this time.
I also wanted to mention that if you have a Turbotax account, you can file form 1065 for the partner's share of income, credits, and deductions. You can see additional details about this process included in the help articles below.
However, if your partner is marked as a dependent, you'll need to reach out to your accounting professional for further guidance about recording this information. If you don't have an accountant, don't sweat! You can find one here in our Resource Center.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I'm always here to lend a hand. Take care!
Okay, so with the QuickBooks Self Employed software I cannot file as a partnership? That's problematic because I thought I had been doing that for the past two years, hopefully I can fix that.
She doesn't need to file her own deductions/income because we just pay taxes on the actual profit that the business creates, not income tax.
If I used QuickBooks Online, would I be able to file as a partnership?
Hello christian-antley!
Let me further assist you with filing taxes.
QuickBooks Online (QBO) is designed for Sole proprietors, Partnerships, Corporations, Limited liability companies (LLCs), and also Nonprofit Organizations. This means you can file your taxes for the limited partnership in QuickBooks Online.
When setting up the QBO account, you'll be asked to choose what company type or tax form your business belongs to. Make sure to select the right one.

Thank you for your help!
Will I be able to just transfer my stuff from QB Self Employed? I have the last three years of transactions, profits, etc and it would be a massive pain to have to type that all in manually to the QB Online system.
I'll go ahead and look into that now, but I await your reply because you guys are so helpful!
Yes, you're able to transfer your data from QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) to QuickBooks Online (QBO), @christian-antley. I'm here to share further details about this.
When you decide to switch from QBSE to QBO, there's no need to manually set up your account. This is because you'll have the option to automatically move your 3-years worth of data (i.e., transactions, profits, etc.) to QBO.
To do this, you'll first have to make sure you download all of your work from QBSE through the Reports menu. This is optional, but it's a good idea to hold on to your work for your records.
Once everything is all set, move your data to QBO. For the step-by-step guide, you can refer to this article: Switch from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online.
Also, to further guide you in managing your transactions and business growth using QuickBooks, I'd recommend checking out this article: QuickBooks Help Articles. It also includes the Resources section where you can Find an expert and visit the Resource center and QuickBooks blog page.
Please let me know if you have other concerns about switching from QBSE to QBO and managing your self-employed data. You can drop a comment below, and I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @christian-antley.
