there is no pencil on Qb online
Let's sort this out so you can reactivate the employee, colleenwich.
The Pencil or Edit icon will only show up if you go to the employee's profile.
Make sure to click the name of the employee so you will be routed to the section where you can see it. Then, proceed to the Employee details tab to see the Pencil icon beside Employment.
If you can't still see it, a possible browser issue might have hidden the Pencil icon. I'll share the steps on that can resolve some of the most common browser issues in QBO.
Use a different browser or switching to an incognito/private browsing session? Use these keyboard shortcuts to switch to incognito mode:
After that, check if can see the Pencil icon as shown in the screenshots above. If you're able to do it, delete your browsing history by following the steps in this article: Clear Cache and Cookies to Fix Issues When Using QuickBooks Online.

I have the same issue I made a terminated employee active and the employee still isnt showing up in the list so I can add there time. I dont know why quickbooks has just terminated for employees as not all employees are terminated they do quit.
I have tried everything and when I go to add time either in the single or the weekly this employee still isnt on there.
I see you've been through a lot already in trying to correct this unusual behavior in QuickBooks Online (QBO), deborahjtappan.

I’ve done this and keep getting an error message when I hit save that says:
Business Validation Error: The release date cannot come before the hire date.
Let me help you get past this issue, @BMu.
Please ensure the release or termination date is set after the hire date. For instance, if the hire date is 01/01/2023, the termination date needs to be 01/02/2023 or later.
