Hello!
I filed a batch of multiple 1099NEC through Quickbooks online.
Now one of the vendors informed me that they had provided a wrong EIN. In this case, I need to file corrected 1099NEC for this vendor only, instead of filing the whole batch again, correct? Also do I need to file a 1096 to accompany this single 1099NEC?
Thanks a lot!
Good morning, @Hindsight.
I appreciate you chiming in to be sure about your questions with amending a 1099-NEC. I can share some insight to help you out.
Yes, you'll need to file the correct 1099-NEC for the one vendor only. However, when amending, manually going through the IRS is the only way for this to be done.
On the other hand, you won't have to submit a 1096. This is because you filed your 1099s electronically.
Here's a few guides that can help you further if need be:
I'm only a post away if you have any other questions or concerns. Wishing you and your business continued success!
Candice,
Thanks for your help!
I'd like to confirm one last thing though: You mentioned I didn't need to submit 1096 because the 1099s were filed electronically. Even though this amended 1099 will be mailed to IRS in paper format, I still don't have to submit a 1096 together with it. Is my understanding correct?
Please confirm.
Thanks a lot!
Hello there, @Hindsight. Allow me to share some insights about amending 1099.
I have what you're seeking in terms of clarification. Those that file their 1099-MISC forms electronically (such as using Intuit's E-file service) do not need to submit a Form 1096, according to the IRS's most recent publication on the subject.
