Let me make it up to you and share information about turning this setting off, @susanwellborn50.

Two-factor authentication is intended to provide additional security as a requirement for customers upon login. Even if an option to turn it off from the security settings is available or not, it'll still ask for a code sent via email or mobile number.

This article will discuss more of this section: Additional login and confirmation code. Even if this article is tagged for QuickBooks Payments, the same principle applies as it discusses your login confirmation.

I can see requiring a two step verification if I’m logging in on a different device or to change personal settings like password, etc. But I’m being required to do it EVERY time I login- which is multiple times a day on the same device.  Ridiculous, unnecessary, frustrating, and time consuming. I should be able to turn that off. The so-called option is grayed out and not available to turn off.

I'm pleased to provide troubleshooting steps, @susanwellborn50.

I know how much it can bother us if we always enter a code every time we log in to our accounts. I'll make sure that your two-step verification feature will be turned off as soon as possible.

The two-step verification in QuickBooks Online can turn off anytime. Being unable to turn off these features in QuickBooks is typically the result of outdated or corrupted cache files in your web browser. By doing this, we can see if it's browser-related.

To start, I'd recommend logging into your account through an incognito window. You can use the keyboard shortcuts below:

  • Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome)
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox)
  •  Control Option (Safari)
  •  Ctrl + Shift + P (Microsoft Edge)

Once logged in, click the Manage your Intuit Account hyperlink and turn off the two-step verification again. See the sample screenshots below for your reference:

If you can successfully turn it off from there, return to your regular browser and press the CTRL+ Shift and Delete keys on their keyboard to clear the cache. After that, log out and back to take effect the settings.

Please note that even if you've already disabled it, we still have multifactor authentication or MFA, which allows you to receive the code via email, text, or call. The MFA is the default security setting in QBO, and we're unable to disable it. Unlike the two-step verification, it won't prompt you to enter a code every time you log in as long as you're using the same browser or device. You can also click the Remember me box so your computer will recognize your account.

Additionally, the MFA may trigger if you're using an incognito window or after clearing the browser's cache and cookies. For more information, see this link: Verify your account with multi-factor authentication.

Also, I recommend visiting our Data and Security page to help you manage your information and privacy settings in QuickBooks Online.

I'll be right here if you have further concerns about the verification process. Be safe, susanwellborn50.

Thanks, MichelleBh.  I did everything you said in your reply - but I'm still being required to provide a text code everytime I log into Quickbooks Online.  I changed it in the security settings and I've clicked "remember me".  This is very annoying.  I log in several times a day from the same device.

Thanks for the update and for doing the alternative steps to fix the verification concern, @susanwellborn50.

Did you know that you can set time out in QuickBooks from 1 hour to 3 hours? Thus, you can only log off from your account every 3 hours. To modify this, go to your Account and Settings, then choose Advanced and edit it from there. See the sample screenshot below for your reference:
