HTTP ERROR 401 when attempting to download W-2 from Workforce.

I processed our company W-2s last week after completing the final payroll for the year.  Before notifying employees, I waited until today to test if W-2 could be downloaded without issue.  My account shows a 2020 W-2 is available.  However there is not preview and the link to download gives me a HTTP ERROR 401 "This page isn't working".  Download link connects to following URL:  https://w2hub-payrolltax.api.intuit.com/w2/v1/pdf2?partner=EFE&year=2020&employeeId=djQuMTo1ODg4NTg4...

Is this a known issue or could it be like what has happened every year in the past that there is always one or two employees who cannot get a copy of their W-2 from Workforce?

Thanks!

HTTP ERROR 401 when attempting to download W-2 from Workforce.

I appreciate you for sharing the error message you receive on your end, @Fevief.

I’ve check here on my end and found to related issue about this. Rest assured I have some troubleshooting steps we can perform to isolate this issue. Let’s access your workforce account on a private window (incognito) and download your employees' W-2 from there.

The browser saves cache data to swiftly load the page faster on your next visit. When gets outdated, it can cause an issue that affects your browser performance. Opening your account via a private window helps us verify the issue as this doesn't store any cache data.

To start with, you can refer to these keyboard shortcuts in opening a private window depending on the browser you’re using:

  • Press keys: Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome browser)
  • Press keys: Command + Shift + N (Safari browser)
  • Press keys: Ctrl + Shift + P (Mozilla Firefox browser)

If you’re able to download your employees' W-2 via a private window, I recommend going back to regular browser's and delete its cache. If the issue persists, try using other supported browsers and see if this is a browser-integrated issue.

If the same things happened, I recommend contacting our Support Team. They have the necessary tools to open your account in a secure environment and investigate this further.

In the meantime, you’ll want to manually provide your employees' W-2. Check the Printing W-2 forms in QuickBooks Desktop section in the article for the complete details: Print W-2 and W-3 forms.

In case you have other concerns in mind, let me know in your reply. I’m always around ready to help you. Keep safe!

I am also getting the same error, as an employee for another company. I've tried opening the page in a private/incognito window and it did not help. Commenting here so this issue is escalated. I'm not sure if I will receive a paper w-2, so I need to download it. Is there someone I can reach out to?
