  3. Re-open QuickBooks and go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  4. Go to the Update Now tab and select the Reset Update checkbox to clear all previous update downloads.
  5. Select Get Updates to start the download.
  6. When the download finishes, restart QuickBooks.
  7. When prompted, accept the option to install the new release.

I am trying to access the 1099 wizard and after numerous trys to update, I am still getting a message to update

Good evening,

I have done the 'reset update' option several times now and it doesn't work. Once I restart QuickBooks I am never given the option to 'install newest update'. I have QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions Accountant 20. I need to get 1099's done and I can't. The 1099 wizard says to 'update QuickBooks'.

Thank you!

Hello, Stephanie.

I appreciate all the steps you've done to resolve this. I have other solutions you can do to fix the update message.

You'll want to end all QuickBooks processes and restart your computer. The program and the computer might need a little bit of a reboot for the updater to successfully install the release patches.

To end all QuickBooks processes:

  1. Press CTRL + ALT + Delete on your keyboard.
  2. Select Task Manager.
  3. Under the Processes tab, find the active instances of QuickBooks (usually QuickBooks (32 bit).
  4. Select them one at a time, then click End task.

Do this until all processes are ended. Once done, restart your computer.

If you're still getting the error, let's run the Tools Hub utility to fix it. You can check this article for the steps: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.

You can also run the Repair tool to fix this.

After fixing the issue, you can start creating and filing your 1099s in QuickBooks. If you need help, check out this workflow guide: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Desktop.
