I cannot process payroll because I have this alert: "One employee profile needs your attention before you can pay them". The employee is me, and the profile is complete.

I have gone through each category in the profile and made sure there was nothing missing. There isn't any red text or pop ups indicating where the missing info might be. I already ran a paycheck for 2024 earlier this month so I know it isn't a new year issue.

Let me help you sort out this error, Vaura.

This usually happens when you're experiencing browser-related issues. To begin with, you can log into an incognito window to see if you're still getting the error. You can use these keyboard keys to access the window:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P

With incognito mode, this deletes cookies and browser history leaving your browser clean and easy to access any websites and error-free. After you're logged in, you can rerun payroll. If it works, then go back to the main browser to clear its cache and delete some outdated files that might be the cause of the error. Otherwise, use a supported, up-to-date browser.

However, if you're still experiencing the same thing, I recommend contacting our support team so they can look at this and investigate further. They have the tools to pull up your account in a secure environment.

Furthermore, you can use this list of payroll reports to ensure you'll be able to view some useful information for your business. I've added this article for more details: Run Payroll Reports

Hi, Darlene.

I hear you, and I appreciate that you've performed the troubleshooting steps my colleague has suggested. Let me help you further resolve the alert while processing payroll.

When running payroll, QuickBooks Online (QBO) marks an employee with a yellow exclamation mark beside the employee name to ensure the accuracy of the payroll paychecks you'll create. Beside the exclamation mark is an indicator of what QBO found missing with the employee info.

Since we've ruled out the possibility of this being a temporary cache problem, we can proceed with reviewing one last time if all necessary employee info is entered. To help in this task, you can follow these steps:

  1. On the payroll page, click on Run payroll again.
  2. Look for the employee at issue and the message indicating the employee information that is missing.
  3. Select Finish setup.
  4. Review each section on the employee information page. Here's a checklist to help in your review:
    • Hire date
    • Form W-4: Employee withholding info
    • Salary or hourly rate
    • Sick or vacation accrual rate
    • Payroll deductions and contributions
    • Payment method
    • Direct deposit authorization

If you still can't proceed with processing your payroll after this, you'll want to contact our Payroll Support team. Rest assured that they have the necessary tools to help you resolve this problem.

For future reference, let me add this article about tracking the time your employees take in QBO: Set up and track time off in payroll
