Good day, @kevin175.

Can you share with me the exact error message or prompt you're getting with when using QuickBooks? That way, I can provide you with the right steps on how to stop NY taxes prompt.

Just add your reply to this thread and we'll get back to you. Have a nice day.

I'm a NJ Employer with an employee who lives in NY. How do I get QB to stop bothering me about NY taxes?

Right now QBO Intuit does not allow me to do any tax filing until I add NY Tax withholding info.

I am not required to file any NY Taxes.

It seems that perhaps at one point I entered a NY address for a "work location" and now QBO thinks I need to file NY taxes.

How can I remove that location without having to CALL UP QBO?

Thanks for your prompt reply with more details of your concerns, @kevin175.

We can remove the work locations by inactivating them in the Payroll Settings. Before doing so, ensure you have no active employee currently assigned to that work location. Then, please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Settings menu (Gear icon), then choose Payroll Settings.
  2. Under Company and Account, select Work Locations.
  3. Select the NY state, then mark the Inactive checkbox and hit Save.

It seems that your instructions is geared to a different or older version of QB.

My menu options does not have those steps at all.

FYI, the URL I am at is https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/payroll-settings-ui/payrollSettings

Where is the employee's work location are they working from NY? if yes you have to pay some NYS taxes and have a separate workers comp policy for NYS
