I'm trying to set up payroll taxes and it is saying my KEIN number is wrong.

After putting in my states (KY) EIN number to set up payroll, it gives me this message "Enter a valid Employer Identification Number (KEIN)".

Thank you for visiting us today, Lawn Guy. I'm here to help you set up your payroll taxes in QuickBooks Online (QBO) to pay your state taxes accordingly.

You'll want to ensure that you have inputted the correct Employer Identification Number (KEIN) format in the field. You can also verify from your state if you have the correct KEIN. Just click the Get your account number to get one if you don't have a number yet.

Otherwise, I suggest inputting your EIN through a private/incognito window if you haven't tried it. The private window will not save any history, making it a good place to identify browser problems. Here are the shortcut keys:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

If you can set them up using a private browser, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. Clearing the cache or cookies is the best way to get a clean slate for your browser. Otherwise, using other supported browsers can be a good alternative too. They'll provide the best and most secure experience with QuickBooks.

Moreover, check out this article to learn more about viewing your payroll tax payments and forms in QBO: View your previously filed tax forms and payments.

You can always count on me if you need a hand with setting up your payroll taxes in QBO. Just hit on the Reply button and I'll be right here to assist you. Have a good one!
