Welcome to the Community, @suesurby.
At this time, there's not a way to change the % to $ on Split Transactions. I'm going to submit feedback to our Product Development Team about bringing in a feature to allow this to happen.
Let me know if you have additional questions or concerns. I'm always here if you need me.
How would QB suggest this be done? Percentage when isnt an option - thanks
Hello there, @suesurby.
Thanks for adding screenshots about your concern. This gives me a better idea of what’s happening to the transactions.
Let’s configure the Split by settings so you can breakdown the entries by percentage. I can walk you through the process.
These steps will get you back to business. I’m also adding a guide that provides an overview of adding and modifying a transaction rule: Create rules to speed up reviews in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
Let me know in the comment box if you need further assistance while working in QBSE. I’m more than happy to assist further. Enjoy the rest of the day.
I have this same issue. There is no pulldown option to "Split By" in my split menu. I am only able to split by percentage and nothing else. This is very frustrating because I have several transactions that are combined totals where a set amount is always $625 and I want to split the remainder. If I could do fractions of percentages, I could get close, but I can only do whole number percentages so the total is always off by a few dollars. How can I make this work??
I'm having the same issue, but there is no "Split By" option in my split menu. I have several transactions that need to be split, with part of the amount always being $625 (the total varies). I can't use percentage because I can't get an accurate total that way, especially since I can only use whole number percentages. How do I do this?
Hi AnimusPress!
I'd like to clarify the option to split transactions.
You can split a transaction by amount or percentage. However, you cannot do this with rules, as it only allows you to use the percentage option.
If you have other questions, you can always go back to this thread. Have a good one!
First I apologize for posting twice. I would delete the dupe if I could.
Second, I cannot find out how to split a transaction without clicking in the "Type" column (which I guess is what you mean by doing it "with rules"?)
I am using QB Self Employed online (not mobile). How do I access a split menu to get the amount option? This is very frustrating as I have a lot of transactions from 2020 that need to be split this way. Thanks for your help.
Hello there, @AnimusPress.
When managing your downloaded bank transactions, you can see the split option if the transaction is no yet split.
You can the Split button in the Type column if you want to edit the split.
To help you save time in splitting same set of transactions , you can create a rule. Just make sure to mark the Always split tick box and Apply to past transactions tick box.
By doing this, all the transactions that has the same bank description under the same bank account will be split and categorized automatically. You can follow the steps below to review the Split and other categorization rules on your QuickBooks account.
Feel free to get back to us here if you have other questions or concerns in tracking your self-employed business income and expenses. I'm just a few posts away.
I have this problem and I still cannot get the option to change to splitting by amount rather than percentage. I'm not trying to set up a rule or anything like that. I have a deposit. I want to split that by dollar amounts because it is 3 separate checks in one deposit. When I click split, it only allows me to split by percentage. There is no drop down menu to select "amount" instead of "percentage." I am also using QuickBooks Self-Employed on the website.
Hi @jessicavox,
I'll take care of this query about splitting transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) for you.
If you're using a browser, it's an exclusive option to split transactions by percentage. Since you need to split transactions by amount, what you need to use is the mobile app for QBSE.
Here's how:
See this article for more details about this process: Split transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
I'll share this article with you as well: Schedule C and expense categories in QuickBooks Self-Employed. It's a breakdown of Schedule C categories available in QBSE, along with their short descriptions.
Feel free to hit the Reply button if you have other questions about splitting transactions in QBSE. I'll be around to help you out.
I just had a long call with customer support. Then eventually a call with a sales specialist. You CANNOT do what you are saying if you use QuckBooks Self-Employed.
I had to upgrade to Simple Start. I was told I’ll be able to do this and apply payments to my invoices (which was another thing I needed to do and couldn’t). I will find out if I can do these things in Simple Start plan as soon as I get all of the accounts set up again.
Hello there, @jessicavox.
Let me share additional information on how you can split your downloaded bank transactions by amount.
Splitting your transactions by amount is ideal for downloaded bank transactions that has fixed amount. I've added a screenshot on how it will look like in QuickBooks Online Simple Start.
However, if the transaction has a different total amount, it will still follow the specific conditions you set on the rule.
Here's how you can edit the rules you set:
You can read through this article to learn more how it works: Setup bank rules to categorize online banking transactions in QuickBooks Online.
You can always find me here if you have other questions. Wishing you a good one.
Yes, I would also like to be able to split bank transactions by dollar when setting up rules.
Good morning, @debbiemt.
Thanks for hopping on this thread.
I can see how this could be beneficial for your business. However, I recommend submitting feedback to our Product Developers so they can consider adding this in the near future. They take the time to review every request and try to add them into the next available update.
Feel free to reach back out if you have any other concerns. Have a great day!
