Is there a time/deadline for keying payroll in order to get direct deposit on time?

Hey there, @wendy42.

Yes, there is a lead time for the direct deposit process in QuickBooks Online (QBO). This depends on what payroll products you're using with. If you're not sure which payroll service you have, here's how you can find it: Which payroll service do I have?

For QBO Payroll Enhanced and Core versions, you may have a 1-day lead time or a 5-day lead time.

In a 1-day lead time, you need to submit your payroll before 5:00 PM PST 1 business day prior to payday. Once you submit the payroll, you can still void or add paychecks up to 4:59 PM PST that day. After 5:00 PM, payroll begins processing and cannot be stopped.

On the other hand, a 5-day lead time means you need to submit your payroll before 5:00 PM PST, 5 business days before payday. If payday is on a Friday, you’ll need to submit payroll the Friday before payday.

After you submit your payroll, your money will draw from your account that day. Then, your employees will see the money on payday.

For QBO Payroll Full Service, Premium, and Elite, you may have same-day direct deposit or a 5-day lead time. For more details, you can check out this article: Understanding lead times and your payroll submission days.

After running your payroll, you can also check your payroll reports to review your liabilities in QuickBooks before paying your taxes.

I'm just a reply away if you have other questions with the QuickBooks Online Payroll. Just add the details of your concerns in this thread and I'll help you out.

We have Enterprise 2022 and we use Desktop Payroll, for months we have been able to do the 1 day prior to direct deposit submission. Now it says we are late, this is not okay. If something changed we should have been notified.

Hey there, @roseburgstc

Thanks for taking the time to follow the thread and sharing your concerns.

We understand that getting your employees paid on time is important for your employees. If you're using our QuickBooks Desktop Enhanced Payroll, your direct deposit processing time takes 2 business days. For example, if you submit payroll Wendsday, that would make payday on Friday. You can see the guided help articles I've included below for more information about direct deposit submission.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Take care!
