is there a way to combine multiple payroll liability accounts?

In moving from the desktop to the online version of QB, we've gotten to a state where we have (for example) two separate accounts that track direct deposit liabilities.   In our particular instance, the QB desktop used "2210 Direct Deposit Liabilities" and the new QBO runs are using "Direct Deposit Payable".  I'd like to ultimately have all of these transactions under a single account - is this something that's relatively easy to fix?

We can merge the two accounts, tu_ultimate.

This way, the transactions will be organized in a single report. Let me guide you how:

  1. From the Accounting tab, select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the 2210 Direct Deposit Liabilities account.
  3. Click the drop-down under ACTION.
  4. Select Edit.
  5. In the Name field, enter Direct Deposit Payable.
  6. Select Yes to confirm.

If these accounts are being used in mapping payroll accounts, we'll have to set them up as a sub-account.

You can do that by clicking the Is sub-account field and then select the parent account. Then, click Save and Close.

If you have extensive list for your chart of accounts, you can use account numbers to categorize finances. I've added this reference for more information: Use account numbers in your chart of accounts.

I'll be around if there's anything that I can help. Stay safe!
